Just being curious and nosy, what are you guys saving up for? can be any gear music related or not. i had to ask cuz just like some of the good people here, we all have other different hobbies aside from music, music gear and the like. so being a music gear enthusiast what other things make you “broke” sorry for the term but thats me right now deciding on what hobby im gonna save up for next . cuz im a poor and can only do one thing at a time lol!

More power! Well, at this point anything at all.. 200 amps is a good place to start (insurance is a joke though..)

Because of my knee injury, I'm still not playing golf (and won't be for several more months). Therefore, I've had far too much time on my hands to drool over new gear for bass and golf. So as soon as I can get my game back, I'm going to replace my Driver, 3W and Hybrid. And I'm lusting after a Mike Lull short scale too.

hoping for you speedy recovery mr c5hokie. golf is awesome and i hope ya get to play again the soonest . Mike lull has a great cult following as the quality of their basses for me will always be up there. even when mike passed and spencer yook over. the craftsmanship on their is always be top notch. cheers and heal quick sir

@darkhalf My fun money expenditure list top of the list a New Amp & Cab Mesa BD800 & Genzler NC-212T. Also Ibanez MDM1305 5 string Jazz bass looks very promising. Pedals potentially starting a small 4 or 5 pedalboard but this won't happen until I get my new rig.

I owe my daughter a really good weekend/local vacation.

Thr BD800 and nc212 is a gonna be a killer combo for sure. I have the bd800 w/ a mesa 212 and i love it. sounds great without the heavy load in/out. although i would want to hear th bd800 w/ nc212 as well im sure its a powerhouse. i gotta check that MDM1305.

that power upgrade looks expensive mr labeledbass. gonna be a “shocking” bill lol but hopefully the upgrade will be flawless and will take care all the rnergy needs and more . cheers Stay safe there man.

I’m doing well. Now 12 weeks post op and I can manage day to day life without significant issue. But still no running/jogging or quick change of direction.

On the plus side I’m not anllowed to do yard work. The negative is no golf for at least 6 more weeks. And realistically probably 10 or more weeks. But I have made massive strides from where I was 12 weeks ago, and things continue to get better.

My main goal for this year is to play in an annual golf tournament I run in the 1st week of Nov. My PT thinks we’ll be ready for it, so that is my rehab focus at this time.

I do speak to my knees. But it is loud grunts of pain or begging them not to fail me again.

I’ll start by saying that I have no experience with a 400+ or the new Bass 800D. I have no idea how closely, or not, the Sonoran gets to those tones.

With that disclaimer out of the way, this thing sounds glorious. I hear/feel some tube compression, unlike anything I’ve experienced with other tube preamp pedals (various Sushi Box and Super Watt).
The breakup is superb. You can dime the master and use the gain to control the volume and your tone stays clean. Or, do the opposite and get rewarded with some almost crunchy (in a good way!) tube breakup. Or, dial in any level of added harmonic content you want just by playing with the gain and volume. There are no farty tube-like tones here. This IS the sound of Chewbes.
The eq works as you would expect. There is an ever present mid scoop, but oddly it didn’t sound like anything was missing. The switches are definitely a nice touch. They expand the range of tones available with a relatively simple eq. The bass shift is kind of subtle, but the other two (treble shift and bright) are very noticeable and totally usable (yes, I’m looking at you Silver Deluxe).
All that being said, the real star of the show (for me) is the low end. It’s thick. It’s chewy. It has an authoritative presence that fills up a lot of sonic space, yet stays clearly in its own lane.

It also plays really nicely with the Scorpion Deluxe cab sim. I’ll have to try it with the Mini Fridge DI tonight.

Mine arrived today, and I've only had a chance to try it with headphones, but I'm going to echo most of this.

There's definitely some compression/sag with the bass turned up. I wasn't sure if it was from the pedal or my amp (Quilter BB803), but reading this I'm sure it was the pedal now. The gain stays mostly clean with some pleasant saturation, and only gets truly dirty near the top of the range. Took drive well from my MBD2.

I'm getting new pickups put in soon, so I may hold off on the real test until after that's all done, but right now this feels like a winner.

My Sonoran arrived today as well. (Guess I got lucky and it skipped the month-long pitstop in Chicago that bedeviled my Scorpion Deluxe.) First impressions are that it is quieter than similar pedals (@davelowell2 tells me this is because of its passive EQ). As I dialed in the EQ (bass around 2:00 which is higher than my normal approach to Fender Tone Stack; midrange dimed; treble around 10:00 or 11:00) I found sounds I liked. I started comparing it to the Quicksilver and Sunray (because of course) which led me to run it into the Super Watt since that is now what I do with those two. And yep, that's where the Sonoran came alive. The Super Watt smoothed out the Sonoran's gain in a pleasing way while adding plenty of low end and general volume.

Passive tube driven EQs work wonders with a BBA in front fyi. I absolutely plan to push mine with one.

I found that to be true long ago with my Little Bastard

You can really change the dynamic range with a good clean boost. (Solarian is also a great tool for this, if you like it crispy)

See, I thought it was better with the Line Driver after giving clean volume boost but nothing in front of it made it do anything but compress and distort too early and not in a good way. But I’ll try BBA.

Of course, with the Line Driver volume up a little all the other pedals in the chain were way too loud…. Still figuring this one out…

I have drivers on all my loops, so I am/will be, using those for makeup if need be. I need to see how much the master influences the output firstly though.

I use those little BBAs in front of everything tube, Sunray, Arkham, (NOT the Super Watt), SVT iip. I do have an older 9v bass thats on the quieter side, so maybe thats why? But I personally notice a shift in gain and EQ range

I am really enjoying the Sonoran, but it has made me realise how great the Super Watt really is. The Sunray gets a lot of plaudits, and for good reason, but I think the Super Watt is by far my favourite Broughton pedal. It just makes everything sound better - even just my naked bass tone.

I’m still experimenting with the Sonoran, but it’s definitely a keeper. I just need to figure out which pedals no longer make the cut on my board……

I feel like I tried that. I’ll go again tomorrow. I mean, the volume is just so low compared to other preamps, that’s why I emailed and asked if mine was broken.

I wonder if officially it has the juice to run a power amp because that’s my setup right now. All pedals into a Baby Sumo.
