Bugera Veyron BV1001M gig review

What were you able to drive it to clipping into? I'm just curious. When my friend and I tried mine out, we couldn't get it to clip before his fearful 15/6 was clearly stressed. Same story with a double 15 cab that he built as double duty, pa sub or backline for a big stage.

I've only seen the clip lights because I tried to, but that was into no load.

My pre fearful 15/6 with a kappalite lf. The box is a little smaller at 3.5ft tuned around 45. My crossover is a little more power hungry as well. It definitely pushes it to the limits though. A bridged crest can get a little bit more uncompressed 80-200hz punch through but at that point it's quite loud and more cabs or pa support should be used if you need that much output.

I'm thoroughly impressed at what they achieved with this amp. What can they come up with for something that sells for $1000?

One more thought. This amp into a high power compact 4 ohm 18" like the audiokinesis hathor 1855 would be one potent little rig.

It's just a solid combination of well thought out compromises....where the compromises are hard to find.

These statements right here......

My only real concern is about long term reliability but with the warranty that I was able to get (3 years from the manufacturer + 1 year extended), I feel pretty safe at least for the next 4 years. Here's a question for those of you that have acquired the (M)osfet version. Now that you have an idea of the quality of these amps, does the thought of also adding the (T)ube version ever cross your mind?

@BassikLee ,

Call me a slut also I guess. I found another open box deal for the T. Couldn't resist the temptation to try it out. Worst case scenario is that I like it but feel it doesn't offer enough of a difference versus the M. If that happens, it will be returned. Best case, of course, is that it is different enough to stay around. I still have two weeks to decide on the M but it ain't going anywhere......

I really like the M. Clean, louder than I can use. Small, fairly light weight. I'm not crying about it being a full two pounds heavier than the head it replaced. My only concern is reliability. That said, my MB fusion was bought DOA, and my BX500 has had ribbon cable issues, so if the Veyron also has issues, it'll be in good company.

Cross my mind, yes. That said, with an MB fusion, and a BX500, as well as more than a little interest in the MiniMega, is there a need? When has that ever stopped me? After all, this IS talkbass, home of gearsluts like myself.
Happening to really like bass gear can get..well, what better to spend money on?
I am about to invest in several thousand dollars of Bugera gear for my bass store and these bass amps will be a large part of it. I am sure that if I like them I will purchase one for myself.

I heard one of the Bugera 2x10's in a live band situation last night. Verdict. They sound very good for Funk and slapping. I would have no shame in running a Bugera Veyron Head and two, 2x10's or two 4x10 8ohm cabs. I'll admit I like high end gear but this particular line of products could knock some vendors out the box. I could care less if it's made from MDF. Have you seen what they make new houses out of that sell for Hundreds of Thousands to Millions. The walls and roofs look like giant planks of MDF :-)

That is my ONLY "Hmmmmm?" about this amp. The gain at the front end. I have fairly low output basses that can clip the input with the pad off, then not at all with the pad on and the gain wide open. Seems like there is a gap in there somewhere.

I have a hard time trying to get any of my basses to clip the input. Two are passive and the other has an active/passive config.

i run with the pad off for all my basses, controling the input level with the gain. I have found for my basses like the Cabronita, there is a sweet spot in the gain that when you hit it the sound of the bass and rig just open up.

I may be wrong about this but I use whatever sounds the best when I am plugged in. High low, pad on, pad off..... As long as I don't get something ugly sounding, I'll try it!

There ain't no wrong way if it works for you.

A question on fan noise and speed. I just brought it into the living room from the shop for practice. The fan is not loud but it is audible and doesn't seem variable. My mb500 is dead silent even when the fan activates.

Not a huge issue just curious if they're all like this. Thanks.

Played an outdoor show Saturday the 4th, started the first set playing my Galveston American Flag P bass with the active EMG pickups. Strangely I have not been happy with the setup of this bass since installing GHS Bass Boomers on it, but I found that I was having to push the Veyron harder than I have before (using the Acoustic 2x15, 700watt 4ohm) to get the volume I wanted. Something I have never had to do with this particular bass before. I thought perhaps maybe I had reached the limits of what the Veyron could do. For the second set I switched over to my newest bass, a 94-95 MIM Fender P bass with stock electrics and hoo-boy, I was wrong about the Veyron. :) The P bass was big and loud and all kinds of awesome sounding, to the point I was not having to dig in and could just play naturally. I knew the P bass had a hot pickup in it but wow. Looks like I need to put the Galveston on the bench, change the strings and put a new battery in it.

The baked in compression and limiting are well implemented. Even when driven to clipping it doesn't sound too bad. My lead sled sounds better at (max)high volume but definitely not worth the extra size and weight. It's just a solid combination of well thought out compromises....where the compromises are hard to find.
I just got mine over the weekend. Have not played through it yey.

I can drive mine into clipping easily with any of my basses with Bartolini preamps where I have the internal gain control turned up. It's the only gripe I have about my Veyron M... the -15dB switch is a very drastic cut, wish they'd either just done -10 or better yet use the gain stucture of my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. It handles my hot basses without clipping. I have no plans on turning my preamps down. They aren't the "problem".

I'm talking about clipping the input, causing the light to stay on.

You clip the amp, or the front end? I can drive the front end to clip with my coldest output, passive bartolini loaded jazz bass. Getting the AMP to clip, I can't imagine ever needing (or being allowed to) be that loud, and I am often told the bass is too loud. When the amp clips, the cute little orange ring around the master volume control turns red. Are you saying you see that??
