Build #2: Fretless Headless 5

Got the maple glued together, the accent pieces are all good, trimmed them down, angled the edges.



Lots of extra glue, if it ain't as mess, or if there's not some flow, I'm not comfortable.

Just my opinion : I would go natural...

But take in mind I have and old CRT monitor that smells smoke eveytime I turn it on, so the color of the dye may not be what it is in person... I see a king of green-blue shade...

Edit : Dye looks better at jobsite (brand new laptop), but I'd still go with the natural (I'm a natural guy I guess...)

Yeah, I think so too, so i'll just go natural this time, while I'd love to do a red dye, perhaps it is not meant to be for this one.

Ok, clamps are off, rounded over almost all the edges (minus inside horns).

I like what you are doing so far!

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have a question about the armada of clamps: is it possible to substitute clamps for, say, straps?

Just wondering of the +s and -s.

Yes, you certainly use straps, I just find the clamps feel easier for me (I tried using straps in the beginning), having said that, I hear they work well when gluing body wings and fingerboards work really well (Martin Koch has done this).

looks like my drummer has almost remade my head piece (being a lefty in this aspect sucks), his shop didn't have any brass on hand, so he's making it out of titanium. I didn't know until he had called me yesterday, that stuff is obviously hard to cut (he said it takes 1 minute to cut a 1/2"). Maybe in the future, i'll have him make all the hardware completely out of titanium.
