Buzzard's Bass

I wasn't sure where this should go, sorry if it is in the wrong place. However:

Has anyone done business with him? I sent an email asking about ordering a body and having some work done to it, and he sent a reply answering most of my questions, and then asking me more specific questions about what I wanted. I haven't had a chance to reply in 3 days due to problems in my personal life. He emailed today asking if there was a reason I haven't replied and, not wanting to get into my personal life, I said there was. he responded asking what it was, then 5 minutes later sent the following:

"Nevermind. I don't care to know.

Thanks for wasting my time. You obviously have it covered; especially the part where you have your lodged up your" (I don't believe I can post the next word here)

Is this rude and completely unprofessional? Or am I in the wrong for having personal problems that don't involve bass?

The owner is Brian W. Cornwell. He has moved around the country and over the last few years there have been other threads about problems with him. Work is done on his terms, not the customers. This quote from his website tells you all you need to know: "Phone number is provided for existing customers or by request only. Please, email me first. I'll determine if phone contact is necessary."

I recently contacted him about converting my active MIA 2011 Jazz Deluxe to an all passive setup with Lindy Fralin pickups. I live about 20 minutes from him and told him that I would drop the bass off. I included a list of the pickups, pots and capacitors that I have. I received a response in which he said his shop is also his house and my presence there is "unnecessary and unwanted". He also said he couldn't tell me what could or couldn't be done without knowing what I had for parts. I replied and told him that I had included a description of what I wanted done and a parts list in my original email and included in the follow up email. He responded by telling me that my bass could not be converted and included a diagram which he claimed explained why it couldn't be done. I sent him another email in which I explained that I disagreed with his opinion because I know other people who have converted from passive to active and vice versa. He then responded with a profanity laced tirade in which he threatened to kick my a$$. I sent him one more message thanking for his time. I also stated that I was glad that I found out that he was unprofessional before I had let him work on any of my basses. He replied again with another profanity laced email in which he claimed that I "called him out" and this time threatened to kill me. He told me to show up at his house so he could "take care of business". He sent this same message to me 3 times. I replied one last time and informed that I had forwarded his threatening emails to the police and asked him to not contact me anymore. He continued to send me threatening emails for the next several days, all of which I ignored. Needless to say, I wouldn't trust him.

Amazing stories. I did a little parts business a couple years back and knew nothing of this. We had limited communication and I recall things being a bit slow but all in all things went without incident. I was going to consider him for a Spector project I have but I am thinking I was well guided not to have done so.

Dude. Brian is a bassist and business man. I have had resent dealing with him and he is top notch. Buzzards is a professional service so you need to be a professional customer IMO. Is he a little salty. Yes. Would I trust my bass in his hands. Very much so.

Hey Liz,
Since you're on good terms with the Buzzard dude let him know that I was very very interested in purchasing his blood red Warwick Vampyre bass a while ago but ran across some not so complementary threads about his business style here on TB. I ended up going to a different dealer and purchasing an Alembic Dragon Wing bass for a lot more money instead (TB rules, no pic no bass so here it is)

Oh well, his loss is my gain I guess. Tell him I said hi!

Haha, multiple death threats = "a little salty."

I've read way too many disturbing stories about this guy, as well as his own crazed posts here in the past (I think he got banned). If anyone told me they were considering using him, I'd tell them to run as fast as they could in the opposite direction.

That's beautiful cocobolo. :bassist:

Thanks! She plays even better than she looks. I still wonder about the Vampyre LTD that I could have bought. They are very hard to find in the color I'd want (blood red or turquoise) but I wasn't about to do a deal with the Buzzard Devil to get it. Maybe someday I'll get one, just will have to be from someone else.
