BYB - Birth Year Basses

I'm not into vintage basses but wanted to buy something special to celebrate my 40th in 2019. My solution: Spector Euro LE1979 and Sadowsky Satin.

Birth year 1951. Ain't happening. Fender probably made less than 50 P Basses from Oct. to Dec. 31st 1951. And, I don't have $40 thousand to blow on a P for that year.

About three years ago, I did find a March '53 P for under $9 K, 100% original. Made about one year and 5 months into production. That ain't bad.

Being born in 1951, pretty much one and only one BYB available for an old fart like me. Fender.

Wow!! nice.. Any stores carry theses? In US. To try .. Before buying

Unfortunately, none that I know of. Which is a shame because they are top notch instruments that are reasonably priced, but many won’t buy before they try nowadays for very legit reasons.

FWIW mine was a blind buy from the Classifieds here on TB and I’ve not been happier with a bass.

Not exactly BYB but maybe CYB (conception year bass)? LOL

Born in early 85, but I have a Black 1984 Yamaha BB1600...always thought those 80's BB models looked cool after seeing the bassist from Crowded House playing one in the "Don't dream it's over" video (near the end of the video)...the recorded bass in that song sounds great too and has a P-bass vibe to it, so I always assumed it was that bass or one like it:

Was also a fan of No Doubt in my youth and once I realised Tony Kanal used a BB1600 I always said I'd like to get one...many moons later one showed up on TB and the rest is history. So there's my CYB story

It would be an expensive-though-not-inconceivable proposition for me, but still a highly unlikely purchase, simply because I'm just not into "vintage" stuff.
But what about the TB members who are Millenials? If we agree that their birth year would be 1980 - 1999. What would the coveted BYB be for them?
I could potentially envision Ibanez Musician, Roadster, Blazer and Roadstar models appealing to the lower end of that bracket as BYBs. Ibanez is a well-known brand among millennial players, but those particular models have now attained "vintage" status.
