CAN ANYONE BEAT TOM'S BASS?!?!?!

Okay, I'll take the challenge. I'll put up my Marchlewski 5 string.

Ironically, the Marchlewski has visited the Bowlus abode. It was one of three or four basses I took to the first Bowlus GTG. In this picture I'm swapping with Burk for his Sadowsky.

I don't think Tom had the Lion's Pride Sjold back then, but you can see one of his other Sjolds behind me in this picture....

That is one beautiful bass!!!!!!!!!!

Nice top but overall it doesn't do a lot for me visually. Don't like matching wood pickup covers on any basses I have seen, prefer leather in a shade that offers some contrast or compliments the color of the wood. Don't care for the matching wood block inlays either. I would like this bass better with an ebony fingerboard and either no inlay or something subtle made of pearl or possibly abalone, gold hardware and some knobs that contrast with the wood. Overall it looks too mono-dimensional to me and I think there is an overdose of similar wood grain going on.

Then again if we all liked the same thing we would all have the same instrument which would be pretty boring.

I really like the looks of the flamed koa Nordstrand Jazz that's been on the top banner ad for the past few weeks. I think it's this one:

For me it's the perfect balance between simple and ornate. But it's all in the eye of the beholder.

cool bass. But from the far away shot, the fretboard looks like particle board....:hiding:

Yeah, that is a very difficult board to photograph properly. This shot isn't a ton better, but it should show that it's not particle board. :smug: It's birdseye maple, with a good bit of extra "mineral" figuring.

The OP asked for some more pics, but mostly all I have are group shots. So here it is with the rest of my Skjolds:
