Now, I really do love Pete's basses, and that redwood Lion's Pride is truly an exceptional instrument. But I can totally appreciate folks who either are not comfortable playing out with such a "fancy" instrument, as well as folks who just don't care for this kind of look. I do get that perspective, for sure. In fact, I'm quite smitten by some more or less straightforward looking instruments, as well. Take my recently acquired Will Lee Model, for instance (it's the one on the left - and yes, I admit that the Sadowsky on the right may be too fancy for some tastes):

Actually, justifying these expenses to the government was a side bonus. The more compelling reason was justifying these expenses to my wife!

Those are some beautiful basses. I quite like that look. I'm not usually a fan of maple boards, but that one I think I could live with. I just bought a "coffee table" looking Lakland myself and I love it.

hey Tom, is that the Skjold from issue one? I was getting into Sage bass mode, but I think that I may be switching gears into Skjold! If I wanted to get that vintage jazz tone like I get from my '76 Jazzy, which model would you recommend guys? I Really like this body design, a bit more modest, which is how I like em. I know only what (ironically) I have read in Bass Gear Magazine about these basses. any insight fellow?

i think my stinger is one of the purdiest basses out there, though not nearly as fancy
