Ok, I really wanted to post this earlier...
I took part in a lot of forums in my life, ( Im 49) due to my intersts in many things plus my low mobility ( can I say that?) Bc of fibromiyalgia, and I have to say Im amazed by the qualily of people here, and their will to help! Really, You created here a great thing, and its not to be taken for granted. Sorry, but I just had to post this.

I agree about the people here. I have been and still am, to some extent, a member of several forums (trucks, cars, buggies, motorcycles, community, music) and TB is by far the best. There certainly are some real nasty people out there, especially on the community forums. I just don't get why people have to be so unpleasant.

TB and other forums are a good spinoff from the internet, and for everyone. Like all social systems, there are a few that want to rule all, but we largely keep them in check

I find bassists to be supportive of each other, which they should since bass is a supportive role in a band.
To be stereotypical, a shredding lead guitarist will see another guitarist's solo and say "I can do that better."
A bassist will see another bassist's bassline and say "Great playing and nice tone."

@paul started something pretty special. @Chris Fitzgerald and the rest of the staff run a right ship and keep us between the ditches. This is NOT the typical "wild wild west" of disrespect that most of the interwebz has become.

Sure, we exchange our share of snark. But even at our worst, we are one of the best groups of diverse humans I have ever come across (digitally speaking).

I would say this also extends to the manufacturers of the equipment we purchase, I have yet to run into a technical rep from a bass or equipment manufacturer that wasn't happy to share their expertise and knowledge with you.......

I think the reason this forum works so well is that the information comes freely and voluntarily. People are at their best when they volunteer. No one is compelled (nor should anyone feel they are compelled) to post frequently.

And TB is the opposite of Reddit probably because we're bassists. I had one teacher describe a musical group as a sandwich with the bassist being the bread that holds everything together.

Agreed. Not all guitarists, but I've observed many of them just stand back with their arms crossed whenever another guitarist is playing.

I've had the same experience. Everyone here seems very cool, helpful, laid back. I've been on a few forums where the people seem like they only joined to argue and fight. Specifically boat and bicycle forums. The bike one cracked me up the most, grown men arguing and fighting over 80-90's BMX stuff, lol. It reminded me of that quote from the 40 year old virgin: "Lots of people ride bikes. When they're fu^$#(# six....", so I ditched that forum and sold my bike stuff. (Kept the one I restored from when I was a kid though.)

I was actually reluctant to join here, and have known about it for years, but I just joined a few weeks ago. I was surprised how great everyone seems on here, so yeah, kudos to all you guys.

Thanks. The compliment is appreciated! I think in general, you'll find that most bassists are supportive and respectful toward each other.

I was once visiting a luthier having my upright adjusted. I commented on how he must go nuts, dealing with neurotic bass players that constantly need the tinyiest little adjustment. He said actually, bass players are by nature supportive and laid back people and that in a long career only a few times dealt with a "problem" personality.

I agree. we're awesome.
