so I am going to practice with it and see if anything happens and bring it in saturday to make sure them windings are ok

You should plug both amps into that cab again and see if it still smokes. If it does, you'll know you haven't damaged the amp all the way yet and you're still safe to use it.

Somethong smoked and it popped when you turned it on again. Something is wrong in there. If he tells you nothing is wrong, find a different tech.

Personally I do a little amp repair myself, but I'm hardly a competent tech by anyone's standards.
That said you could just take the top off the svt and look inside. It's a rack unit right? Just take the lid off.

I don't think that anything still needs to be said in this thread, members wiser than me have explained the situation pretty thoroughly.
However, if you keep playing with it, you will probably not be wasting your time/money when you finally bring it in for servicing.

yeah I was going to take it out of the rack mount....but if its in the transformer wire insulation theres really nothing I can do by looking at it....then again is there anything a tech can even do? it works fine if it goes the transformer is gone no? all he can do is turn it on and see if it smokes?

I'm inclined, in a *small* way to believe the Watertown tech answer, as they DO get a LOT of SVT repairs (and he at times can be...resistant to new repairs, lol)...but it still surprised me is all.

I'll give you $75 shipped for the svt so you can pay to take your micro head to the tech. just don't turn it on again before selling it to me.
