Can we please stop using "guitard"?

I was a guitard at church today
I hope to be proudly back as a basstard in two weeks
I think we need to lighten up a bit
I think it is really just used tongue in cheek
If I knew it would offend someone I would never use it around them

Enough with the common sense rational talk already. You're going to ruin it for the thin-skinned Dudley Doorights out there.

Ah, Jimmy. You were on a roll, and then you over-reached with this one. Where is your sample that justifies your generalization that ALL anti-PC people are COMPLETELY phony? Certainly some, perhaps many, are. But neither you nor I know the extent. And as to "finding triggers," anyone with a proclivity for medium-scale basses already is vulnerable. ;)
I can totally offend ANYONE in this thread if I want to. Many people have already demonstrated their offense openly. Some hide it better than others. But I've offended enough offensive anti-PC people on Facebook to know that it's like shooting ducks in a barrel.

As for medium scale, Stanley Clarke. Your argument is done.

But in the case of calling someone a "r*tard," you are not pointing out an unacceptable behavior; you are attempting to hurt or insult someone by comparing them to someone with a disability.

If you and a friend were in a room with someone with Down Syndrome, and your friend did something you thought was stupid, would you say to him, "dude, you are such a r*tard"? Do you understand how that could be more hurtful to the person with Down Syndrome than to your friend?

Sure, but can we use a little common sense too? Why would someone do that UNLESS their intention was to be hurtful to the person with Down's Syndrome? I realize that there are insensitive clods out there who have no problem dropping "F" bombs on line at the Disney Store and would have no problem pointing out the weaknesses of others. I don't think that's what we're talking about here. Unless I misread this thread, we are talking about using a word to describe the behavior of otherwise fully functioning people. I see it as no different from any other word you might use to describe foolish behavior.

Oh, well you'll have to excuse me then, bro. I see someone call someone else an "arrogant prick" over something they said, and I assume they're offended. Silly me :D

I'll agree with you on that one. I was hoping this thread wouldn't devolve into name calling and personal attacks. That's the kind of thing that gets a good debate closed down by the mods.

And now for the most offensive song and video ever recorded. Someone should ban these guys immediately:

Wrong. They are singing about someone living a nice full life despite having developmental disabilities. Besides, when they wrote it, Down's syndrome was often referred to in medical circles as "mongoloidism." But it's a song of hope and respect for those who overcame their disabilities to lead a normal life.

I reckon Stanley could be used to support long- and maybe even short-scale basses, so the best we have here is a draw. 'sides, I wasn't arguing; I was kidding. Must have picked the wrong emoticon.

That would really depend on the person. Many people have a sense of humour about themselves, not all gay people take offence to "dude that's so gay" if it's used in a tone that clearly isn't actually anti gay.

The thing about these arguments is its all a bunch of people doing the talking for a group they don't belong to.

People have used other examples like ADD, Aspergers, OCD... Well personally I have Aspergers but I don't really care if someone makes a light hearted autism joke, and would find it pretty funny if "guitautist" became a term. I think there's a difference between using words for surface deep humour and actual hatred or intolerance

Yes, but they used and outdated and potentially hurtful term that the PC police have stricken from the language. Isn't that against the rules?

Offend me. Even if you do can, I won't censure you.

Slippery slope fallacy. No-one is talking about "striking out every word that could possibly hurt anyone's feelings." We're talking about a specific word that is indisputably hurtful to a specific group of people, and has been for a long time.

(Edit: best if read in a Joe Pesci voice. And if it is not clear, this is sarcasm.)

A fallacy huh? I suppose it's no coincidence you picked the one word thas sounds like phallusy to describe my opinion. You think you are so damn clever you arrogant jerk. Calling me dickish! Of all the damn nerve.

I don't even want to know what goes through your sick head when you think of "slippery slope". How did it get slippery?

You offend me. I choose to be offended by this and now we should not say fallacy or slippery slope anymore. Those words are hurtful and evil.

Suck on that, logic!
