Canceled gigs this weekend due to weather?

That's a serious storm. Watched the local news tonight here in Madison, WI. Most snow ever here was 19 inches in an event. I remember that one, it wasn't fun. My sympathies to you in DC and the other areas getting hammered.

I've played countless gigs on snowy nights. Some are pretty memorable as being fun. The ride home never was all that fun.

Well, the storm is projected to last for 36 hours, so if it's a steady inch per hour you have just shy of a meter of snow. For D.C., that's more than twice their average snowfall for a year. Throw in high winds and you get several feet of snow drifts, whiteout conditions and downed power lines, not to mention in some areas snow isn't falling, but sleet and hail is. Blizzards aren't hype.

Had no gigs scheduled for this weekend... good thing too because I'm stuck at work until some relief troops can make it in here. We're at about 14" where I am in Roanoke, VA. with more snow (and high winds) still to come later today. :rollno:

Figured I might be here for a while, so I brought a bass and my practice amp. :bassist:

And just in case the power grid craps out, I brought along my old Gibson A-model mandolin... :laugh:

Here in central pa the Storm started about 2 hours before they predicted and, as of this morning, has already dumped more snow than they were anticipating for the duration of the storm.

Gigs last night weren't getting cancelled but a lot of stuff is shutting down today.

Woo Hoo , this is one epic storm. Seahag (my lovely wife) works at Home Depot and had to be in at 5 am to open the store this morning. The snow started around here around 3 PM yesterday and was coming down pretty good from the git go. I got up around 3:30 am to go out and clear around the cars. I was greeted by about a foot of snow and 30 mph winds. There were already 2 and 3 foot drifts in some places. Fired up the new snowblower and went to work clearing around the cars parked on the street and getting the stuff out of the way that the snowplows had left for me. I live on a corner so there's a lot to do. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to get it all and by the time I got finished there was already a couple of inches back where I started.
Thank heaven for my new snowblower (paid for with last summers gig money.) It would have taken me well over three hours with my old antique blower. The only thing exposed on me was my beard and when I got back inside it was solid ice.
I will assume that anything going on within a couple of hundred miles will be cancelled tonight. As soon as a plow goes by the wind covers it up again and it's coming down at well over an inch an hour and is supposed to go on like this for several more hours. There is no possible way to get the roads clear right now. If anyone is on the roads around here they are either very essential personnel , some type of emergency worker , or a complete idiot.
