Cannabis

Supposedly one of the strongest hallucinogens out there, but only lasts for about 10-15 min, but you need to get it just right to work properly, and it's different for a lot of people.

I tried it once with the 5x extract about a year ago but not much happened besides for feeling really relaxed and heavy, and felt like my face was stretched out (it was a pleasant feeling, though). Nothing major happened to 2 other friends either, but 1 other friend started bugging out and spinning around the room with his arms spread out for about 5 minutes. He later told us it felt like there were people on his head spinning a giant thread that was rising out of it, and he had to spin the other way to untangle it. What was interesting was that he was the most experienced out of all of us with the psychedelics, but he said it's the worst trip he had ever had, despite how short it was.

I would be willing to try it again if I can get my hands on some...

If I wanted a 15 minute psychedelic trip I'd just watch Un Chien Andalou.

Now if I want a 5 hour trip, theres something for that...

... many diesel engines can be easily converted to run on hemp fuel.

there are several schools of thought on bio-diesel, hemp oil and engine conversion. i have read, tho, that hemp oil can be poured directly into a diesel engine and run fine. and that rudolf diesel actually designed the engine with carbohydrate based fuel in mind (i am not sure gasoline was considered a fuel yet). what's more, he was a social theorist and his goal was to give the common man access to personal engines so as to compete with industry. what a commie.

it is a legitimate concern for the med/pharm industries. they would need to be able to have complete control of dose and administration (meaning how you take the drug, not bureaucracy) to test it, pass FDA, and distribute it. and, of course, there is no profit without a patent. you can't patent a plant. they would have to refine it for all of these purposes.

as a fan of things whole, unprocessed, and local, i don't think cannabis (or its users) would benefit from refining the plant. dronabinol (marinol) is just delta-9 THC. cannabis has many more cannabinoids in it as well as other chemicals, all in a balance. i would rather eat fruit than take vitamin C pills for the same reasons. i would prefer a local, outdoor grown plant myself. its not like i would sell it to the high schoolers up the street from me....

For some things I agree, but for drugs I like refined and standardized. I think that refinement would have more of a "negative" impact on the more casual users, and that there actually would be some benefit to others. But thats just baseless speculation. I can't think of a better comparison off the top of my head, but for aspirin vs a willow tree, or morphine vs some opium, I'd take the refined version. Again, I'm biased, and at this point its pretty much just opinion anyway.

re: salvia--I don't recommend that to anyone, ever. You do trip--and you trip hard--but its not pleasant, not beneficial, and generally something I wouldn't do again. My least favorite psychedelic (from the time when I was into those sort of things).

I agree with this. Salvia may be an... experience, but there are safer ways of going about getting that experience. DMT is a naturally occurring psychedelic chemical that is produced in your brain at birth, death, during dreams and during near death experiences. It also occurs in just about every life form on the planet (it is actually more amazing to discover a species of plant or animal that does not produce this chemical). Smoking DMT allows you, essentially to have a (roughly) 7 minute waking dream, in which you lose all conscious contact with your body and essentially have an out of body experience.

There are many links between the DMT experience and spiritual states achieved from the practice of Meditation, in fact many meditation stories (along with near death experiences and alien abduction stories) exhibit strikingly similar features with a DMT trip.

As for marijuana, I believe it was the late great Terrance Mckenna who stated that "more money has been poured into researching the NEGATIVE aspects of cannabis than any other drug". Obviously Mckenna was a long standing advocate for the use of mind altering substances but, if this is indeed true, there are certainly questions that are raised in my mind as to why that is.

I should say now that I am a user of Cannabis as well as many other mind altering substances (no stimulants, only chemicals I can 'learn' from). I have had experience with a majority of the available psychedelic substances and have never experienced negative effects from them*. I am also a Buddhist and, personally, believe that my use of these chemicals has helped me on my spiritual path, if only to open up new realms of thought and possability.

*Except for Datura (Jimsonweed), I was young and took some of this without first reading about it's effects. I went to the toilet in my pants and thought that I was bleeding from my eyes for about 3 hours. I strongly recommend against ever trying this chemical, even if you think it's ok.

I want to say now also that I am in no way an advocate of taking drugs, just because I have used them on my path doesn't mean everyone should. Personal discretion is always important and each person must do what they feel is right. Which is why I disagree with the Government making the drugs illegal, I believe the choice should lie solely with the individual.

But these are just my views. I hope they have been enlightening.

What music glorifies smoking herb? It started in the 60s & 70s with psychedelic music over 40 years ago.

Rap, gangter rap for sure. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and although there were a few songs with drug refrences in the songs there was nothing like rap songs etc today about blazin etc...not even close.

I do. Just last night about everybody at my gig was drinking in the parking lot. (though I know someone was smoking herb on the smoking patio).

Drinking wont go away but i dont walk into a the gas station with kids/folks reaking of alcohol but weed almost everyday and they are so stoned they can't order their net blunt wrapper :hmm:

But like I said before, stupid is as stupid does. I used to blaze it in my car all the time when I was living with my parents. I certainly couldnt do it at home, and I wanted to ease the stress of my workday so Id smoke on the way home. Probably not the best idea, but it never created a problem. These days I have my own place, so I dont need to smoke out in public, though I still do, like last night at my gig, in the car, in the parking lot (and on the smoking patio).

There you said what i see all the time you blazed and drove around freely...why? Where you really worried of the police that much? Would you of been drinking a 12 pack instead of smoking weed? Allot of the iddiots i see blazing are not doing it cuz they have no place to do it. They do it to be part of the scene...you know driving ,blazin, playing heavy bass rap etc and cruzin. Maybe Im getting older but i dont like it. There is one thing i have found out about weed smokers like allot of things in life politics etc they are always right and i will always be wrong. Peace.

What were we talking about again?;)
Until the various governments can find a way to tax pot, like they do with booze, I don't think there will be any will to legalize it. And since you can't tax someone who is growing their herb in their back yard, they will continue to ban the substance.
Cops here, simply ignore the guys smokin a jibber behind the bar and really try and focus on the main distributers...
I my circle of friends, heck in my neighbourhood, it is not unusual to smell herb being burned.
I believe that it should be kept from kids, but once you reach the age of majority and can freely purchase booze, then you have matured to the point of making your own consumable decisions.

I don't think I'm brilliant by any means, but I still maintain a 3.9GPA without much trouble. That said, I've still met plenty of smokers who are crispy fried. And with that being said, I've also met plenty of people who are also crispy fried without the benefit of drugs or alcohol. They're just idiots.
If you saw me walking down the street, you probably wouldn't know that I partake several times daily and have for about 7 1/2 years now. I look like a super square; I wear button down shirts all year long and I tuck them in my pants. It doesn't help that more than one person has said that I dress like their grandpa.:hmm:

Pot smoker or not, a GPA does not necessarily predict success. One of the smartest guys I know got an insane ACT score and had a 4.0 throughout high school and college. He was smart and talented enough that he could do anything...which became his Achilles since it took him very long to decide.

Where I went to undergrad didn't seem to be much into pot, but grad school seemed to have a lot more. Most of the heavy pot smokers seemed to come from very affluent families and had a spot somewhere in their dad's firm. Without a guaranteed slot in their dad's firm, most of them wouldn't have amounted to anything.

Like anything else, everyone reacts differently to salvia. I feel like a lot of the people (not all, certainly, but a good number) who have had those negative experiences with it weren't taking it as seriously as they should have. Make no mistake - it is an enormously powerful plant. But it has the potential for quite positive effects on a person's consciousness.

Personally, some of the most profoundly beautiful, life changing experiences in my life have been a result of salvia. Again, it's a matter of understanding the plant thoroughly, respecting it, and using it intelligently. I just hate that it has this reputation of being consistently bad; it's been pretty good for me and everyone I've tried it with. :hmm:

I kind of consider myself a salvia expert. My roommates loved the stuff and for two years smoked it pretty much once a week. I never tried it myself due to it smelling like a burning turd. Yes I know I've never tripped but I've watched a whole hell of a lot of them so I'm a fairly good impartial observer. I do plan on trying it once I get some cash and a few people to join.

One thing I've noticed alot is people's inability to explain what was happening or had happened. Some people had very intense ones and others it barely effected them. One girl who had never did anything other than booze went from being really happy to literally in tears. I suggest if you do try it make sure everyone is sitting down and no tables or anything are in the room. People always try to stand up and always fall. Also helps to have someone there to watch over people, and if you're using a bong make sure you grab it off the person as soon as they finish. Salvia influenced people don't hold items well.

All that being said I feel like its reasonably safe (save for the smoke which I'm sure isn't good to breathe in). If you're curious why not give it a shot, just make sure you're in a good environment and you'll have no problemos.

ahhh datura. you, sir, are lucky to be alive and sane (relatively?;)). that is a VERY powerful plant and needs a trained spiritual healer to work with you if you are gonna experiment with it. it grew like a weed in my backyard in the central valley in california. i thought it was beautiful and would allow a few to grow each year. it smelled like peanut butter when i pulled the stems tho (always wore gloves, serious plant).

i wish i had brought some seeds with me; i miss it.

Oh man, I have a few relatives who did datura. One of them studies biology at uni. He said that they were lucky since the seeds weren't quite ripe, otherwise they would have essentially been schizophrenic for about half a year.

As for cannabis, I am for it. I mostly think that it would be a good idea to legalize and regulate it. Would give another tax income for the country and a legal outlet for stress for the people.

I've heard about DMT before. I'm quite interested in trying it (I mean, outside of sleeping). I wonder how it would feel like for someone who has learned how to lucid dream.

I don't know--I've found other ingestible much more meaningful (and frankly, much more interesting). Salvia seemed to be without the resonance I've seen in other psychedelics, and while it was quite intense, I see no benefit in doing it again.

But, hey, if it worked for you, don't let one guy on the internet make you feel bad about it. ;)

There you said what i see all the time you blazed and drove around freely...why?

I think I stated why, I didnt have a place to smoke, I was on my way home from work, I didnt want to wait the hour commute and then get away from the house before I could light up.

Where you really worried of the police that much? Would you of been drinking a 12 pack instead of smoking weed?

If I could tell you how many times Ive been seen smoking in my car by police you'd laugh, bcause its a LOT. Ive been pulled over after hanging out in the woods smoking. You know what the police asked me? 'Have you been drinking' "No sir, I was out there smoking some herb" It was confiscated and I was sent on my way. Another time at a park, about 1am, after leaving an 80s club, me and 3 friends were smoking bowls, a cop rolls up, drives his car up on the grass, gets out and asks us "Wheres your meth?" 'We dont do that ****.' we told him 'We're just smoking'. He didnt bother to even confiscate it, the cop says he 'only does meth'.
Would I be driving around drinking a 12 pack? No way. Smoking a bowl does much less to impair ones judgement than a few beers.

Allot of the idiots i see blazing are not doing it cuz they have no place to do it. They do it to be part of the scene...you know driving ,blazin, playing heavy bass rap etc and cruzin.

Im not familiar with this scene. Again, idiots do idiotic things. I dont drive around smoking calling attention to myself, this game is about being discreet.

Maybe Im getting older but i dont like it. There is one thing i have found out about weed smokers like allot of things in life politics etc they are always right and i will always be wrong. Peace.

No ones saying youre wrong here, we're just of different mindsets, and thats ok. Im not trying to get you to smoke, just dispell with a lot of the misinformation.

In November California will be voting on whether or not MJ should be legalized for recreational use. The bill proposes to tax and regulate it in the same fashion as alcohol.

When you brew your own beer does someone knock on your door asking for tax money?

All I know is that it turns most (not all) people who smoke it regularly into kinda like the "pod people" from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Something... missing...

People tend to be really boring when high, they have lots of intense "conversations" with one another that are just complete chains of non-sequiturs (I guess you have to be high to think they are actual conversations). It really sucks to be stuck with a bunch of stone pot heads "conversing" with one another. And those that do get dependent on it (I know, not everyone does) become really pathetic.

The stuff also smells bloody awful, the stench makes a lot of non-smokers sick when they are subjected to it.

Having said all that, I think the stuff should be legal. Especially with all the beneficial uses of the plant, both medicinal and non-medicinal (hemp seed, fibers, etc). It's not a dangerous drug, and I am opposed to depriving people of their enjoyment of relatively harmless substances, as long as they smoke away from people who don't want to be made sick by the stench and don't want to be forced to have that stench in their hair and clothes for the rest of the day.

^^^

All of this, plus it can mess with your sense of time, making your job as a bass player harder at gigs. I agree that it is much less harmless than alcohol, but most people don't really understand how harmful alcohol really is.

You can also convert any gasoline engine to run on alcohol. But alcohol is more dangerous than hemp, so never mind. :(
