Not necessary this way, maybe a lot are addicted to TalkBass and barely browse other forums.

That and I'm bored, too.

I think as other have mentioned, it goes through phases.... there are times when there are a lot of interesting discussions and I do get addicted.

But at other times, you look through and think there's nothing I want to get involved in - nothing but endless lists of gear specifications - how many times can you get fascinated by "P vs J", what's the best bass or amp for a newbie etc etc.

I find the gear stuff - mostly, extremely tedious and only enter these out of desparation - when I'm really bored !!!

I think at the moment, the board is at a low point - very tedious - pages and pages of very boring technical stuff.

But I know it will pick up and there will be interesting stuff.

So - I think Xmas for me, is always a bit of a quiet time for music-related stuff and I tend to lose motivation. But after playing at a couple of good Jazz jams, attending a few nice gigs and the prospect of some lively gigs for my main band in Spring/Summer, things start to look up.

Winter is always a bit depressing and a lot of people I know virtually "hibernate" - but with Spring people start to go out more and you see more people, things start happening!!!

I'm sure that TB must reflect this cycle to a certain extent as well?

I've looked through a lot of the other forums on mutiple occasions, and TB is the only one that makes me want to stay and post. I'm one of the guys that jumps forum to forum, and it still doesn't get boring too often with me. I skip some forums (tabs, pickups) and post minimally in others, like Amps (I have yet to recieve a Masters in Physics or an Eden fetish so I haven't got the credentials to be a regular in that forum yet ), but I still find things to do and say in all the other ones. Plus the appearance of the site is very appealing to me; large print and good background/print color choices make reading easy on my bad eyes.

Not to mention everyone here freakin' rocks!

I don't look in on amps often either - but I have different reasons.

So - my view is that the only thing that is important about an amp/cab is how it sounds to me. (Apart from size and weight which I can get off the company website) And the only way to determine this is by listening to it!!

No amount of discussion is going to tell me how my bass sounds through a particular amp/cab combination - but I can go along to a shop and find out in 5 minutes!!


PS - I do have an Eden fetish!!

Must admit, this is a place where I do feel at home pretty much. I've been seeing most of the regulars posting since I joined up, and mostly enjoy the company, the debate, the vast amount of information out there that one day when I apply it, I'll maybe become a competent bassist!

I also visit other forums, and feel pretty comfortable in some of them - in fact I bump into Jazz Ad now and then!

Horses for courses! And I agree with Bruce in the respect that sometimes I log on and there's nothing really of interest. It just happens I guess!

I'm definitely addicted.... I browse forum-to-forum regularly, and have learned a ton of good stuff. This is the only forum I frequent.

I have a boring on-line personality, however. I have started referring to myself as "The Thread-Killa", because it seems like I am often the last person to post. But then again, I tend not to post on the more conversational threads. I guess I'm an online wallflower...

I love hanging out here, though. I've always known that bass players were a special breed, and this site proves it. ("I love you all!" sniff, sniff)
