As for diechris's volume issue, "Drive" control makes a *huge* difference--it's essentially a second gain level, among other things. I tend to have Drive set at about 1 o'clock.

Also, the active/passive input switch cuts the level quite a bit. I use it to compensate between my two basses which have very different outputs, but if you only have one bass there's probably no reason to set it to "Active" unless you're getting distortion.

awesome i'll try setting the drive higher. I dont use the active switch.. but i do use active basses.

One other thing. One amps 'flat' setting isn't like another. Somewhere in this thread, someone listed the knob settings for 'flat' on the B1500, and they are not "all at 12 o'clock".

I tweak my eq quite a bit, to where when my volume is at 3 (9 o'clock-ish) I'm loud.

Which cables are you using? Which outputs on the back?

I did at the time that photo was taken, yes. It does have a volume knob, you know. :smug:

One of my favorite combinations is to drive two LS1503's with the B1500. And yes, my LS1503's are not modified in any fashion.

I just a/b my mb2500 and b1500. It seems the b1500 needs a lot more input volume fro
my bass to take advantage of all the power the b1500 has.


I used a boost pedal and cranked it to just below clipping which is right where the gk is at and that's when I need to drop the volume knob way down and the tone really shines then.


Is this normal?

Is your toggle switch set for active or passive ?

If you have it set to active - change it back.

Absent a control for input gain, the "standard" setting is a little on the low side.

I use hot output active basses, and use the passive input. I cannot make the input clip light flicker. I could not imagine it being set on active.

damn that sucks. I'm going all passive on my basses too.. I guess i'll need a preamp.

i had the drive set at noon. i can get a lot more volume with the gain cranked but it changes the tone a lot.

i mean.. the tone is great... but i wanted more headroom. right now my gk mb2500 is louder when set at the same level so it seems like i added 7x the weight for less headroom.


I'm still working things out with the amp... ive only had two sessions with it so far..

Don't take the knob position to mean anything much about what percentage of the amp's power you're using. I'm pretty sure you're still getting a whole lot more headroom with the Carvin!

i dont see how that makes sense...


if i set them both at the same level and the gk is louder... how will the carvin have more head room?

I'm using my ears... i sure if i max both of them out the gk would be louder but instead of risking my speakers.. i set them at the same level and the gk was louder.. im sure the carvin was using more power but more power doesnt mean more volume.
