UPDATE... ok so I dont know what it was but maybe my ears were shot from playing without earplugs in the practice space... but I did my first gig tonite with B1500 and it sounded great and loud! Had lots of compliments from other bassist about being able to be heard well in the mix and having a good tone.

Diechris, if your effects loop switch is off - blue light off - and things plugged into your send/return jacks are still audible, then there's an issue. Maybe just check the connections to the switch inside. I doubt anyone has a schematic (?).

Tip - for more volume without changing the tone, just boost each EQ knob by the same amount. Example - if your EQ settings are 4, 6, 5, 5, 3 then make them 7, 9, 8, 8, 6 and it should sound the same only much louder.

What stand alone cabs match up well (do you recommend) with the B1500? Particularly 1x15's.

I have been kicking around the idea of matched cab and head and using a B1500 with an 8 ohm BR115N. I thinking the 8 ohm only because I think at 4 ohms the head would be way to much for that cab. Am I flawed in my thinking?

I am a tech n00b...

The B1500 pushes 700 watts @ 8 ohms, which is similar to the 800 watts bridged @ 8 ohms that my BX1200 provides. I think it works very well through my 8 ohm Low Down Sound 15/6.5 cab. Do a little reading and you'll find that the
Eminence Kappa Lite 3015LF can handle lots of power without farting, and the 18 Sound 6ND410 6.5" driver handles the higher mids and highs. There are also a few different varieties that Don has already built for others on this forum.

A better cabinet all around than the BR115N is the Carvin LS1503...the PA cabinet with the same 15" driver as the BR115 (not neo...I don't think) but comes with a 6" midrange and the tweeter.

As for watts, I wouldn't worry so much about putting too many watts through a cabinet.

But the BR115N is a solid 1x15. If you opt later for a 2xBR115N rig, it would kill

Personally, I'd suggest the 4 ohm version, though. The B1500 runs comfortably at 2 ohms. The only downside would be resale as some people don't want a 4 ohm 1x15.

I've read a lot about the LDS stuff, and it is ALL really good. I've lurked around their website, but I do not really understand what it is all about. It looks like like they are a custom cab maker. I have no clue as to what specs I would want, nor do I know if I could afford something like that. I do not understand the freq stuff, or crossover settings etc. I just read Kens thread on the 15/6.5 cab, and thought it sounded good, but the tech stuff left me clueless.

I saw that cab that Tom (Bass Gear Guy) was using that LS1503 cab. Weight is a HUGE consideration for me and it is 58 lbs vs. the BR115N's 52lbs. How that works I'll never know, but that seems workable! The one thing that gets me is that it is only 8 ohms.

Which brings me too...

When you say not to worry about the watts through a cab are you saying it is ok to run the 1200watts @ 4 ohms through a cab rated at 600w RMS? If thats the case I will definitely be going 4 ohm rather than 8. It is nice that the B1500 will allow me to run a 4 ohm stand alone, and than add a 8 or 4 ohm extension later. Big selling point for me.

It was a learning process for me too, but Don is also there to answer questions for you. It might even be as simple as requesting the "fEarful" 15/6.5 cab. Then you just have to decide if you want carpet or tolex, and other more minor decisions like that. As for price, sure, I paid more for my cab than that Carvin LS1503 costs, but Don's prices are still quite reasonable IMO. If nothing else, consider sending him an e-mail letting him know what you want, and he'll give you a quote.

While I do like the B1500 with the LS1503, it works equally well with a variety of cabs. Really, you can pair that amp with just about anything and not get a "bad" combination.
