I returned a custom ordered bass to Carvin and it arrived on Tuesday: Invalid Link Removed

I called that day and was told the refund was initiated. I paid through Paypal using my Paypal Master Card. I called again on Friday because I haven't been notified through email by Paypal. Bart asked for my number and told me they would call if they had trouble refunding the money.

In the meantime they have already resold the bass that I returned.

Should I contact Bart again tomorrow or contact Paypal and see if they know anything?

I would probably contact Carvin first and let them know nothing has shown up yet, and you're concerned the transaction failed or maybe even worse, went to the wrong account, and want to get it resolved asap for both their sake and yours.

I feel like I'm bothering Bart because the last time I talked to him he told me if there was a problem they would be sure to call me. Call me impatient, but if they've had time to resell the bass, I think I should be getting some kind of refund confirmation.

Yeah, I am on hiatus from motorsports for a bit for the interest of marital harmony. It is even more of an expensive hobby than bass gear!

In a few weeks, either this or my Lakland 55-60 (skyline) will likely be in the classifieds....

So far so good, though!

There are just too many good tone options available with the electronics on this Carvin, so it looks like I'm keeping this SB5000. The Olympic White/Tort/RW 55-60 is going on the block to help fund a B25, or maybe an SB5000 fretless...

Yeah the guy failed to read the ad and see that the bass was passive. I almost didn't give a refund for that, but decided to be nice.

IMO the current ad could more clearly state it's passive only. I might have missed that also.

Nah, I gave him full disclosure on the neck swap on the phone. He was ok with that and bought it anyway. Just didn't read about the passive part I guess. So much for putting details in the for sale ad

Bob, what would you suggest? Aside from putting passive next to the electronics, I thought the lack of stacked bass/treble knobs and the jack on the faceplate in the picture was a dead giveaway as well.

Say "This bass is not the standard active/passive configuration, but is passive only."
Your potential buyers should not have to infer that from the knobs.

It's not just the knobs, its this:
Vol/Vol/Tone (passive)
Like all passive Jazz basses I am familiar with.

The evidence that it should be more clearly stated is your buyer did not know.
For this bass it's referred to as Passive Tone Control even on the standard models, which is why your vague passive mention is not clear enough.

It's a beauty!

Also, Carvin does sell the preamp seperately right? If so, it's probably cheaper than a 'dowsky preamp so you could inexpensively turn this to active.

They do sell the preamp for around $150-$175 I think, but its an 18 volt system. Probably easier to go with one of the drop in after market 9 volts systems.
