Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 6!

Observations so far....
I haven't weighed them, but the SB is just a little lighter. I haven't played them on quality equipment yet, only my practice amp (will do that in the next day or two), but the SB has a better tone overall and seems to have a wider range of versatility. I'm loving the jazz tone. However, that Dingwall B string is just so strong that it's tough to beat. I think that's about the only thing I like better about the tone on the Dingwall. As far as feel, I'm not sure if I like the Dingwall better or if I'm just used to it, but I'll give that a little more time.
I'm liking the overall looks better also Eggman, although the Combustion is a close second IMO. I'll give it a rest and pick them up again tomorrow.

Yes it is active. The MM sounds good solo'd. Sounds better paired with the jazz p/u.

Sounds good. Yeah, you get a 37" B and it's easier to get a more fundamental in it, which is always nice. But like you, I'm more drawn to a more J type sound, and I'm generally more comfortable on a 34" scale bass, too. And at least in my case, I eventually found I had trouble mixing fanned and traditionally fretted basses. Turned out I had to make a choice between them and stick to it. Definitely had nothing to do with quality or design, because NOBODY builds a better instrument than Sheldon. Nobody. He's right at the top tier of the game (IMHO).

I gotta say that ever since seeing Tom Barney's SB, this is by far my favorite color combo. Nice! Not envious at all. Really.

That's exactly when I decided this was the color combo for me. After months of trying to pick one, I saw that video of his and immediately knew that was the one. Although, I decided to go with black hardware and pups and he has chrome/cream.
Tell you what, I'll sell you this one for $1600 and you can avoid the 11 week wait!
It amazes me how well this thread does without a bunch of pics. Anyone got pics gigging their SB's?
I really don't think the SB4 neck is chunkier than my I4. If anything I think it's a touch smaller especially at the headstock end.
