Awesome setup Xed. I almost thought about the seafoam green and white moto or maybe the pearl blue with tortoise and a flamed maple neck and fingerboard. I've always wanted a white setup, but if I ever end up with another SB it will probably be one of those two.

I'm pretty sure that the one that just showed up on the in stock page is one that one of our fellow TB'ers sent back due to the color not being as expected. Carvin's "Seafoam" is a lighter color than their "Surf". Other companies have their "Surf" lighter than their "Seafoam". I ordered "Seafoam" because I wanted the lighter more pastel color but going into this I originally thought I was supposed to be ordering "Surf" because other companies consider that the "lighter" color. No matter what they call it as long as it shows up looking like the green of mint chocolate chip ice cream then I'll be happy.
A handguard is what carvin calls a metal neck pickup cover.
The variance in the pearl blue metallic was also what made me shy away from it. I was after the Lake Tahoe Blue like on the new Stingray Classic series. But in the gallery for that color, there was too much of a variety to know what I would get. That is my only complaint about Carvin colors. I've thought about their transparent purple, but it is across the board. When I ordered my BB76 Fretless, I actually paid extra so I could tell them exactly what photo example I wanted it to look like. Turned out awesome, but I should have ordered the hard as nails finish. It isn't advertised, but they will seal the fretboard on fretless necks. Not quite like a Pedulla, but hear it is a nice option. It was $200 extra though at the time, so I opted not to do it. (I was already in like $1850 on the bass). Hopefully your seafoam gives you the minty freshness you are after. 
Is anybody out there getting into pickup or preamp swapping on SBs yet? Mine plays stupidly well, has no dead spots, an an amazing B string. But the tone is not as bold or robust as my sadowskys. Can't help but wonder ...

That's what sadowkys are so known for, and Fender Ps have in spades as well. The SB5000 sounds amazing at home, and for solos and slap, but its missing some of the ommph I'm used to for fingerstyle and pick. The onboard EQ can't add what I'm looking for.
I also get a lot of behind the nut string ring that I think is sapping a bit of power, considering adding a string tree or maybe just a headband to mute that.
Overall amazing bass seems like it just needs some fine tuning to fit my taste.
I think that the SB nails the Jazz bass tone.
Do the Sadowskys you're trying to cop feature a split coil pickup?
Maybe you need the ole S2 switch...?

Man, there some seriously great basses on the in stock page right now. Killer bang for the buck stuff.
Yeah, Sadowsky basses differ from a more classical J bass type sound (like the SB's are modeled after) in that they have a different midrange profile that helps cut mixes a little better. It's their own sound, and you pretty much just have to have one of those basses if you want that sound.
I personally wouldn't change a thing on my SB, because I love it's native sound A LOT and if I want to cut more, I just favor the bridge a little and "done"... maybe a touch of bass if it thins out a bit too much in doing so, depending on the venue, but again, "done". Then again, I don't have to "choose", either, as I have one of each of these basses.
This just all boils down to the same thing we always say here...
If you really want "that" sound, you pretty much have to get "that" bass. Just depends on what you like best, and what you're ok with "an approximation of" as an alternate sound.
My SB4000
This one has an ash body, I'm thinking of getting rid of this one and get one exactly like it with alder.
You have a very beautiful bass there.
I have a B40 in Ash and A B40 in Alder, I can't tell a difference in tone, but I can tell in weight. The Ash is a bit lighter.
I swapped the pre in my SB5000 out for an Audere JZ3. Really just did it so I could have the mid control as well as a tone knob. Sounds great, sounds pretty similar to the stock pre. The Z switch is a pretty cool feature if your looking for super lows.
