Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 7!

I think they also come standard 22 fret instead of 20 fret. Not a big issue for most, but a difference.
Man, I'm really thinking about an SB5000. Seems like they're Sadowsky clones at a third of the price (and possibly a nicer neck).
For the guys that have the standard finish on their necks, do they move a lot? Kinda looking at one of the basses in stock, but the one option it doesn't have that I would really want on it is a gloss neck. My instruments have to be DURABLE, they see a lot of action.

I mean to say, at least no more than any other neck, in other words, the oil finish does a perfectly fine job of protecting the wood. Other builders and luthiers will also confirm this.

Just signed up to join the SB nation this morning...even though I was totally satisfied as a B24 dude.
Guys, my SB4001 is only 1 month old and I already needed to change 2 sets of batteries in this period of time. From one day to another the bass simply had no output volume on active mode. I can't believe it consumes the batteries so quickly. Has anyone had any problem like this?? (Passive mode is working like a charm by the way)

after a couple of gigs on the real world, this thing is amazing.I am sure I'll use active someday but for now passive is the way to go, slapping heaven too.\

Update: Alright, something is terribly wrong with the active mode of my SB4001. Just put a new set of 9v batteries and the upper pot is overheating the battery. The brand new one is already FRYING and almost 50% of the voltage has been consumed in less than 5 minutes. Someone please help me!
Yeah, that was the first thing I did.
Well, I just unscrewed the surface underneath the knobs (forgot how that part of the bass is called hehe) and realized that the pickup blend knob is somewhat loose. Its interface is moving slightly as the knob is turned, and there is a cable inside that isn't connected to anything. What I think is that the cable was touching the pickup blend interface, resulting a short circuit. A pic of the inside is attached. I tried isolating that cable and it seems to be OK now (even though i'm not 100% secure about that). A pic of the inside is attached.
Any thoughts?
PS: That separated cable to the right is the one I'm talking about.

Have been playing for an hour now with the cable isolated, batteries are OK so far. I really think it was shorting the circuit and causing the overheating/extreme battery consumption.
Nonetheless, I will let Carvin know about this. That's definately something they should never let happen.
I would even suggest any SB owner to check if your cables inside are well covered and protected. If that happened to me, that could happen to any of us!

Sorry this happened, but thanks for posting. The first thing I will do when mine comes in is check for secure wiring.
It looks like the wiring to the battery. It's where they soldered the + and the - together in series to make the +18 volts. Just cover the exposed wire ends with some electrical tape and tuck it back into to cavity...you'll be fine.
