Not on an SB5000, but on a B40 I ordered a few years ago I asked for a light piece of ash and the bass came out pretty light. I don't know how heavy but it feels much lighter than my Jazz or my Yamaha BB1000.

Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 7!

I was a bit worried about taking a chance on stainless frets and the H50A's, but not any more. IMHO, I cannot tell/hear the difference in frets compared to my SB4000 stock frets and the H50A's are 95% of the J99A experience, with just slightly less output and ZERO hum
I had to flip it and lighten it up a bit just to see what it would look like
LOL! That's exactly the flip I do to pictures of all the righty's

And, well, Carvin's dates were VERY accurate in my case.
I told them I had to receive it while staying in the USA for 2 weeks (i live in Brazil). They told me like ONE MONTH EARLIER that the bass would be done by January 4th and would be delivered January 9th. They couldn't have been more precise. Everything went just as they said
Did another 4 hour gig with the SB5000 and BX500 last night. Man those two match up so well. Just big, fat, clean tones that sit perfectly in the mix all night long. I had the Drive off, Compressor off, everything else set to noon and it just killed. I just wish I would have taken my BRX 10.2 cab instead of my SWR Golight 2x10, but the SWR was already with the band gear.
On a side note, I also took my GK MB800 and sat it on top of the BX500 with plans of using each one per set, but the tones were kicking with the BX500 which made me decide not to worry about even plugging the MB800 in.
Once again, my Carvin gear made me look like my avatar last night

I nearly passed-out when I first opened the case it was shipped in, not only because of the gorgeous top, but also that great Carvin catnip case smell
One of the very nice features of the SB and other Carvin basses is the use of extra long bass string ferrules that allow one to use standard length strings when running them through the body.
My other non-Carvin basses have me buying more-expensive extra long strings so that the winding tapers make it fully over the nut.
Example: When stringing through the body, I cannot use the very-discounted D'Addario EXL165's on my non-Carvin basses, but I can with my Carvin basses

That Deep Wine finish looks pretty killer. Killer enough to almost make me rethink the SB5000 build I've had solidified for a while now, for when I find another full time job. (Interview tomorrow!!!). They don't have any examples of it on the Carvin Gallery site and I've been wondering about it for a while.
I'm really crossing my fingers and staying positive about this interview tomorrow. The job would be cool, and the SB build I have in mind is pretty different than almost all of the basses I've seen you guys posting in these threads. A little nervous about both! lol

I gigged with a BR515 combo and a BR210 cab for almost 2 years. The BR515 is a 1x15 cab with a racked BX500 built into it. I never had a problem with this amp. I've used it as a stand alone combo, combo with additional 2x10 cab and just the head and the 2x10 cab for quiet gigs. Always reliable; always consistent. For a few months I rehearsed with a reggae band at the drummer's house. He had a monstrous 2x15 cab with an old Peavey head. I used to take my little Carvin BX500 head and hook it up to that 2x15 cab and look out! --Big bottom with clarity. And let's not forget, super lightweight and super affordable.
