Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call!

I was going to order my with the Icon Headstock but I couldn't picture what it would look like. Since the top horn is running up I don't think it going to look good on that bass.
Man I am so jealous. Those SB5000's are gorgeous. Got a little bub with one on the way. No new bass for me at the moment but one of these with a LB or Icon headstock would be perfect.
Can anyone comment on the passive tone of the SB4000? Does it get the classic 60s/70s Jazz tone?

The (ash/maple) SB4000 that Carvin sent us for review definitely sounds more true to my '73 Jazz in passive mode than it does in active mode. I really like the passive tone, and I'd probably use it without the preamp most of the time, though it's nice to have the preamp handy when you need to tweak things a bit. It sounds fine in active mode, too, but the low end is a bit hyped (relative to passive) and I hear just a bit more air to the high end in passive mode. Of course, turning down the Bass and slightly boosting the Treble in active mode get it closer to the passive tone, but it's still not quite the same.

I'm pondering another SB5000, ash/maple with the regular elex setup, black guard and bell cover...I need a backup right?
What's happened to the prices?
I just did an "order" (can't make my mind up) and it came out about $1000 more than a couple of weeks ago!
It just goes to show how successful the model is, and it would be stupid of them not to put the prices up if the demand is high, but, £$$%!

I suppose you're right, but they really do sound like the business, or at least as far as I can tell without trying one, and, once again, I've missed the boat!.
I'll console myself with the thought that maybe they only sound THAT good when Sekou is playing them!.
Seriously though, that price in the UK puts them higher than a Metro, and although you get all the options, they certainly are a lot less tempting when you think you might have an MV524 for £450 less than my choice of SB500 with all the options
