Carvin's BX1500 and B2000

For the tone I like it does require EQing. Keep in mind I have a very specific tone. I dont like high mids and cut there quite a bit. I dont have much in the way of highs in my tone, but I boost the upper bass / low-mids to get a full yet punchy tone.

I'm not very good at describing tone, but I'd say set FLAT this amp does have a fair bit upper mid content. I dont know that I would call it "gank" but it dials out easily enough IME. I cant comment on the 'overlap between the treble frequencies and the upper mids' issue as I generally kibosh those frequencies and cant quite remember how those sound flat since I never play the amp that way.

Again, *I* think the amp does require eq for *my* tone. BUT with the semi-parametric eq it is fairly easy to achieve a very nice warm tone.

Thanks for your thoughts. Seems that even if the two amps should have a very similar basic voicing, the extensive EQ capabilities of the BX1500 would make all the difference.

I'd expect the basic voicing of the B2000 to be noticeably better in order to justify the difference in power and the difference in price... :hmm:

Can someone please please please put a video on youtube or something with good sound quality of what the B2000 is capable of doing or kind of doing?

I don't have any videos, but for what it's worth...

I upgraded from an Ampeg B2RE to the B2000. I find the Carvin's EQ knobs to be VERY sensitive. I'm also have a little trouble getting the high end dialed in.

My experience is complicated by a lack of use - my band has stopped booking shows to record a CD, so I've only put the B2000 on stage twice since I got it. Our practice room is a generous closet, so adjusting it in there is fun but pointless. Add to that I have a new LDS cabinet arriving in a few days, and there's no way I can even begin to get it straightened out.

But power? Holy hell. I'm using a Genz Benz 210 XB in our practice room, with the B2000 around 1.5 on master volume, and I'm just a tad too loud for a heavy drummer and two guitar half stacks. Nobody is playing at stage volume, of course, but Holy Hell, this amp has a ridiculous output.

My LDS cab will be a three way with attenuation on both the mid and tweeter, so I'm certain I'll be able to get the high end figured out. I should also be able to top 125 dB. Take THAT crappy sound guy!

I appreciate the info in the videos. But what's up with the cheesy '80s hair band soundtracks? Yeesh, I can practically smell the burnt Spandex and the stale beer every time I hear them. Yuck! :p

Whoever has the B2000. Do you get any string noise? Like fret noise? I cant explain it but I think you know what I mean. String/slide noise is like my biggest pet pev and I believe that people said the B1500 had some. So does the 2000? Thanks
