The rain held off until I was home unpacking. Glad for that. I used the pbass for the whole show playing about half of the time with a pick, which was the first time in 20 years of playing that i've even tried that.

We had an hour set and not having practiced since our last gig we had really good energy even though we dropped a few parts. Good show, all new material but a couple. We've been mixing new recordings so even though we haven't been practicing we've been listening to the new songs 17 times a night so we have them down. Fun show.

Saturday afternoon was a kind of interesting gig..........played an outdoor festival, held inside the walls of the old WV Penitentiary. (It's no longer housing prisoners.) The weather was a bit cool and windy, so the crowds were not as large as usual (we've done this gig before), but the band was absolutely ON! We all had a great time, and got great feedback from the audience.

Played Rhino's & Jocks, Anderson Mill and 183, Austin.

Its a sports bar. So we figured it would be yet another sucky sports bar gig.

But it was much nicer than we ever expected! The waitstaff was awesome, the crowd was involved, listening, and interacting, and the mains provided by the venue were beautiful JBL's. Very nice gig!!!

Will be missing my gigs this week, since I'll be in Louisiana.

Our gig at The Stables in Westminster went OK in spite of a slim crowd. I was too busy enjoying my new Avatar 1x12 cab to worry about it! Also the bandleader bought a new monitor board, so we had a lot less problems with the in-ear system. I'm told the FOH sound was improved as well.
No gig on Memorial Day weekend! We play next on Thursday the 31st, at Boonsboro MD, the first carnival of the summer season. Corn dogs, yum!

We've got a 1.5-hour slot at a semi-private 2-day festival on a farm in Pennsylvania. There are ten bands over two days. Half of the light rig that was just on tour with Widespread Panic will be behind us. It'll be the biggest crowd I've ever played for.

We cobbled together a band just for this trip - Drums, bass, guitar, and trombone - and we've been rehearsing our asses off for the last three weeks. Just in the last week it's really felt like we're a band, like we've got our own sound.

The setlist is The Ocean, It's Your Thang (Isley bros.), an original tune, Chameleon, Bathtub Gin (Phish), Airbag (Radiohead) > L.A. Woman (Doors). We're going to do a lot of expanded improv - it's a hippie-type crowd that expects that kind of thing.

I'm hella psyched. :hyper:

Friday: We're opening for a local band that has been on hiatus for about 6 months. I'm honestly not holding out a whole lot of hope for this one, because there are three or four other shows aimed RIGHT at the same audience as this one on the same night.

Sunday: We're opening for Spoken and Inhale/Exhale, which should be an awesome show. They're both on Tooth and Nail/Solid State records, and Spoken is semi-based out of Des Moines, so there should be a really good crowd. I'm really, really pumped for this one. It's probably going to be our biggest real gig so far.

Ok, the one on friday went better than I thought it would. It was a community center show, so I was expecting a crappy PA, but I was surprised to see a HUGE bi-amped setup that had to be cranking upwards of 4500 watts. The kids weren't all that into us, but it was still a pretty decent show.

Sunday was a bit of a letdown. Inhale/Exhale (who I was actually really pumped to see) wasn't able to play, so they were replaced by this lame nu-metal band from Des Moines. That was a bummer. Also, the kids were REALLY not digging our stuff, which is always dissappointing. We got paid fairly well and sold a decent amount of merch, so it wasn't a total loss, but it wasn't as great as I was expecting. Spoken was awesome, though. Their lead singer came up to me and thanked us for playing the show, which is a cool gesture, considering I've looked up to him and the band since I was in jr. high.

Had a gig cancelled for Friday night....and I couldn't be happier.
Got a call for a barbershop quartet gig and said yes and then was told the gig was out in the Hamptons on Long Island. Friday night traffic from my house to there is horrendous normally, let alone for Memorial Day weekend.When I got back from my sons band concert, there was a message that the client got another group,sorry. I'm not.
Don't cry for me, I still have a pretty busy weekend: 2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday.

I didn't check in but the weekend went like this:

1st show Friday night in Comerica Park at one of the pubs there. It went over quite well. It is our 2nd time there. Tigers lost to Cleveland. The 'Tribe's pitcher...Byrd threw only 13 strikes through 7 innings. Detroit had no answer...but fans came into the bar and dug us. We've been invited back...again!

Saturday Night: City of Hazel Park Memorial Day Fair sponsored by the City and the local Lions Club. We played in the beer tent. They sold ALOT of beer. The crowd was loud, lovin' it and outta control. Drunks spewing forth, girls flashed us, we got encores. My ears are ringing from the crowd noise, not the amps. They said we were the best act they've had there in years...(thinking to myself: "we're not charging enough $$$").

They've invited us back too...duh! O.K.

A decent weekend.

Just got back home...show went amazingly well...at least 250 people at the bbq..and all except the real old timers had a blast and loved us...we even had a 2-3 yr old kid rocking out in front of us for the entire show...got some great contacts and were asked to play more shows...and even had people asking us to sign stuff and take pictures...coolest show I have ever played

Tonight we've got one of those gigs that might be awesome, or might be a disaster... We've spent the last year gigging bars everyweekend (and getting paid), but now we've got a gig and a "venue" - big stage, full house PA, lights. We've even got a support band. We're playing for a split of the door (though we point blank refused to guarentee a block tickets in advance - one of the reasons it's taken us so much work to get in there, as we were NOT going to pay-to-play, as I know the support band have).

Trouble is, it's a Wednesday night, and we charging on the door, whereas we normally play for no-cover-charge places on a weekend. We had a gig last weekend that ROCKED a mile or so from this venue - normally that venue bombs, so perhaps all the promotion we've been doing for tonight is paying off.

Normally we don't promote, beyond having posters in the venue, and handing out gig lists to the audience, but we've been pushing this one like crazy.

Just a bit nervous, as usually when we think a gig is going to be great it bombs, then the next week we turn up somewhere that looks like we're going to get lynched and the place goes crazy. Tonight is either going to be awesome, or we're going to stand around playing to the support band (if they don't go home!)...

I'll report back!
