After the show, the woman booking the event tells us that they were very happy with a show we did for them last week, and we'll get a pay bump to $200/musician, both for tonight's gig and retroactively for the one last week. I've been playing a long time and never seen that happen. :)

LOL So noted! :D

My gig with my brother went well. The keyboard player surprised us by showing up with a brand new Hammond keyboard. Man I love that organ sound! An excellent addition to the band. We had a number of friends & family show up, and a good amount stayed til the end. Having played last weekend, we were unusually well rehearsed (though not what I'd call tight), so musically it went well. I pulled off a few cool bass moments, I hope somebody noticed! Got a compliment on my vocals from a nice lady. And unlike last weekend, we got paid an amount that didn't remind me of 1978. Yay! I was in a good enough mood to chip in $20 toward the band tab, though I only had one beer from a band pitcher. Impulsive, I know! :p

This past weekend was *awesome*! Hubby's old band (Nameless Road), my current band (Chrome Wheels), and the old band Hubby and I were in together (The Knowbodys), all got up and played at Larry's Lone Star Bar & Ice House. It was mainly a Knowbodys gig, but everyone got plenty of time to play.

There is video footage of Chrome Wheels on our page (myspace.com/thechromewheels). I'm on three of them. The clips of "Straight On" and "Fool For Your Stocking" were done at Larry's Lone Star. "Stay With Me" was at Remington's. You can't see me 'cause of the dancing couple, but you can hear me. The other is a piece that CW's singer wrote, but which has not yet been worked up by the whole band. The page's background decor bleeds through, but its still watchable.

The Knowbodys showcased our newest songs, which we will record tomorrow night at The Sweat Box. The crowd favorites were "I Am Here For You", a gorgeous, guitar-drenched female metal ballad written by our guitarist/my next door neighbor, and "Sleeping The Day Away", a garage/alternative rumination on, well...sleeping the day away!

I can't wait to get the cd done.

Oh, yeah...the tv was on. No sound. And no one was watching it!!! :hyper:

No other keyboard sounds as good as a Hammond. Sweet!

I played at Hollywood's Whisky a GoGo on Friday, May 11th and it was quite an interesting night:

We were the first band booked for that evening since we set it up a couple months in advance. About a month before the show we learned that our band (a progressive-alternative quartet) was sharing the night with five thrash/speed metal bands. We were all a bit nervous about the crowd, but we have metal-esque sections so I knew it would go over decently, and if it didn't I told the rest of the group to not care anyway. We sold the just as many (or more) tickets than the other bands so we belonged there just as much. To stack deck in our favor a bit, we decided to switch out a mellower piece with one of our heavier numbers.

We played our set, much to the suprise of the metal crowd, and it went over better than expected. Half of this was due to our talented, double-bass hammering drummer, but they were REALLY digging my lead bass playing (my fiancee said she saw a few jaws dropped throughout the set). It was also my debut performance with my fretless Carvin LB75FP, which wooed the crowd in its own right, although it was only used for a single song.

At the end of the set there were quite a few metal heads chanting for a bass solo, so I nonchalantly began the intro riff to "Dueling Banjos", much to the crowd's delight, but I left it there so I didn't hog the stage (they'll just have to come see me next time!). After breaking down the equipment I got nothing but praise for my playing, our group acquired a few more fans, and we sold a good amount of merch.

I couldn't have expected anything better from this odd-band-out experience!

Union of Saints was direct support for Gilby Clark (Rock Star Super Nova, Guns n Roses, Heart). This was our first "real" show with both our new drummer and new lead guitarist. The show rocked! Couple o little issues like a couple tunes were too fast but other then that it came off great. We weren't sure how long we'd get to play as there were 5 bands on the bill. We got a 45 minute set which was great as the other openers got 30 minutes. Vocals and harmonies never sounded better and that's real important as we're a vocal band a la Journey, et al.

Rocked the Ric 4003 4-to-5 through the Marshall VBA400/SVT810E. Nothing but complements on the tone of that combination.

Fun night, we had a big crowd of friends and about 50 folks from Bikers for Christ in their colors cheering us on.

I got my Carvin a few months back, think it's a 90's LP not sure, nice blue, lots of "WOW" comments, and an old GK 800RB running through an old Ampeg 4x10, people love the sound!

I've always wanted to play the Whiskey!!!

The old band dug the new band. The new band dug the old band. It was a love fest...LOL!

My current band was very kind to my old one, letting old band use our PA, running sound, and hanging/partying together. When current band got up for three songs, both the old bands were so supportive!

Very cool. Very, very cool.

This evening I have a gig in a tiny café with my acoustic band, which more or less is me on upright and vocals, my buddy on guitar and vocals and his wife on vocals and sometimes guitar. So basically it is usually just bass and one guitar which is pretty fun because I get to fill more sonic space ;-)

Tomorrow night I am playing with my rock cover band (me, two guitars, drums) We have a new drummer and have only played with him one time but I think he is going to blow the old drummer out of the water... This is definitely a party band and we get crazy. I'm looking forward to this. I am contemplating bringing my stage piano to play on some songs. I've done that before and did the bass parts with my left hand or the rhythm guitarist plays bass on those.

Well the acoustic gig went pretty well, we have played there maybe 20 times but this is the most money we have made yet.

The other gig was pretty wild. We were playing in an old bar that is pretty close to where I live but is in the middle of nowhere so I really did not expect too many people to show up. The place ended up being packed and as a special bonus a guy came up and gave us $20 each as a tip....

This Saturday my country band is back at The Stables in Westminster MD. Another chance to sample their excellent food. But what I'm really looking forward to is my first gig with my new Avatar 1x12 cab! Might be retiring the JBL 15 I've been using for 20+ years. I'll be using exclusively 4 ohm cabs for the first time ever.

Good luck with the Avatar. I was not that impressed with mine, the first gig. It grew on me and by the third or fourth gig, I was happy/used to it. It still brings compliments from band members and sound techs. I found that using it on its side makes for a better sound.

I've got a couple of gigs this weekend.

Friday: We're opening for a local band that has been on hiatus for about 6 months. I'm honestly not holding out a whole lot of hope for this one, because there are three or four other shows aimed RIGHT at the same audience as this one on the same night.

Sunday: We're opening for Spoken and Inhale/Exhale, which should be an awesome show. They're both on Tooth and Nail/Solid State records, and Spoken is semi-based out of Des Moines, so there should be a really good crowd. I'm really, really pumped for this one. It's probably going to be our biggest real gig so far.

Saturday we're playing an outdoor family fair type thing. Third year we've been asked to play. Good stage great sound system. The band's been in the studio all spring and we're only practiced once in a ocuple months. Our set is almost all new material so i'm a little nervous.

It might rain. I'm nervous about that.

I'm going to play my pbass for the first time out and I'm wondering how i'll do with flatwounds live.
