Sent you a PM. I'll be at Mt. High on Sat. Playing early at 10:30 or 11:00. Than we have a three or four hour drive to Las Vegas to play out there at night.

Tonight I am going to be at El Tapitio in Santa Ana w/ Voodoo Glow Skulls. The promoter threw us on the show last minute, and asked us to play after the headliner as a "suprise guest" thing, which I'm sure means we will play to keep the bar open. 12:20 PM if you are night owl.

Friday----
This club has the load in door next to the stage and it has been a boring winter so I drug out both amps to try the bi amp thing.Brought along the Jaguar and the Longhorn .Worked out well.Great tone.Yes I kept the volume down.Good crowd all night.
The drummer has serious back problems and it really affected his playing tonight.Tempo was everywhere. It was a chore to keep it together.Guitar player says he and I need to have lunch next week and discuss the drummer issue.

Saturday----
Just brought the little amp tonight.Used the Jag and the Longhorn again.Absolutley a packed house.
Drummer's back issues knocked him out for the night.The stand in drummer kicked butt.Solid as a rock. It made playing effortless.The Longhorn is amaizing.So punchy and clear.So enjoyable.Crowd thick all night.A real blast.

3 piece rock and roll band.
Buddy Guy,SRV,Stones,Albert King, things along those lines.
I was commenting to the wife yesterday that it ticks me off that with all the money I've spent on basses my favorite is my cheapest.You have to experence a Longhorn to understand the attraction.

What's wrong with the cheapest being your favorite? I say sell the most expensive ones and stick with what you like. I find the perfect bass for me is a Warwick Corvette. Sold a Tobias Killer B and a have a Warwick 95 Fortress on the bay now because I liked the Corvette better. Play what you like and sell the stuff that doesn't get used.

Tomorrow I'm playing bass with the *********************We are playing at Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn at 9pm with a rehearsal and dinner beforehand.

I will be playing my Benavente Vortex 5, strung with some sort of DR strings (I forget what they are).

We've had 2 rehearsals so far and we have about 10 songs.

Stay tuned...

Update on [*****************************show:

Small stage, hard to hear/follow everyone else. The drummer and mandolin player said the same thing. But we managed to stay together with few problems.

Big crowd, which emptied out as the next band started (it was a lot of our friends).

I had an Ampeg combo, maybe 200 watts, I don't recall. It belonged to the next band.

We played one song at a blazing tempo, which was the drummer's fault because he counted us in that way, but the song ended up being a lot of fun by the end.

I took two solos. Both were okay. We all made sure not to make our mistake faces when anything happened.

We had a tuning problem where our leader's guitar (one of three instruments she plays) was out of tune with the rest of her instruments and I ended up having to bend my notes sharp to make them in tune.

Becky (leader), Nick (drummer) and I took a cab back afterward. We agreed that it was not musically brilliant, but we're a fun country band and the songs are what matter and nobody was coming to see her sing and play like a virtuoso (she's not).

This thread has been kinda quiet for awhile, so I'll get things going again.

Tonite, a private birthday party, but in a club with a reception hall. From what I hear, the normal club patrons will be welcome as well, so we should have a great crowd "built in".

Who else on TB is gigging tonite or this weekend?

I had two gigs last weekend, but some other stuff to do, and I didn't get around to posting about them. Sorry about that!
My country band will be at The Stables, in Westminster MD on Saturday night. They've got a nice stage with a door right next to it to load in through. I like that! Also excellent food. The boss is an old Greek guy with a gruff, tough demeanor. I'm sure he's fully capable of making a band miserable if he felt it justified, but luckily he loves us, especially our girl singer. Should be a good time.
One thing I'm not looking forward to - I may have to have a face-off with the sound man. At our last gig, on a break, I turned around to see him turning down the volume on my power amp, without having said anything to me in advance. :eyebrow: Not sure if he was being sneaky or not. I'm going to have to make it clear that I didn't appreciate that. He's got a bit of an ego, so I'm thinking he won't like getting criticized.

Just played the Laneway Festival here in Brisbane with Kate Bradley... 20+ bands and DJs over two stages. One indoors at 'the Zoo', one stage outside (in the laneway, hence the name).

We played the opening slot on the indoor stage at midday, and man was it a stinker of a day! There was well over 150 people in front of us by the time we'd finished our (very sweaty) set, so I didn't miss 3 hours of antenatal classes for nothing :bassist:

To top things off, backline was provided. Played my (newly shielded) MIM J through an SVT-VR and 8x10. Luvverly, just rolled some mids into the eq and added a touch of bass and the tone was pure rock! Being the first band, we had plenty of time to soundcheck which is always a bonus.

Hey all! Just found this thread. We played yesterday morning at the Emerald Nuts 5K Run/Walk, which is connected to the Los Angeles Marathon. Setup on a small stage in front of the Staples Center where the 5K start/finish was.

Man, was that a blast! It was really nice to help fire up the crowd at 7:00 am pre-race, and the host, some radio/tv personality, and the sound/stage crew were really appreciative to us. This kind of stuff is pretty new to me, but we were good enough to keep a good sized crowd around the whole time. Had to get up at 4:00 am, so afterwards I went home and took a nap.

I as well just noticed this thread... I've got a gig tomorrow night with my Indie Rock band at a place called the Cavern, and as soon as I'm done there off to a 2nd gig at the Zoo Osborne Village inn. They are within 2 blocks of each other so I can walk there! you gotta love it when that happens:bassist:
