played two gigs over the weekend.

Friday Night, Spare Rib & The Bluegrass Sauce headlined at The Sunset Tavern in Ballard, Seattle, WA. We KILLED IT! :bassist:
Bar staff & promoter totally didn't know what to expect, even though we had told them we'd bring in 200ppl easily (been working to get this gig since freaking March!). Packed the place, 140 paid the door cover (prolly another 20 friends snuck in, damn cheapskates!). We played two 90min sets, and had 4 guests musicians sit in at different times through out the evening. Crowd was rowdy, drunk, and dancing.. just they way they should be! ;)

Saturday Night, same band, played a community event up in the moutains, celbrating the purchase of 100 acres of old growth forest to be made into a public park. Whole town turned out (about a 100+ residents), and was a good ol' time. BBQ, Beer, & Bluegrass.. just doesn't get no better!

gig this wednesday with Spare Rib & The Bluegrass Sauce at our usual "2nd Wednesday of the Month" monthly at a local irish pub.

Oct 17-Nov 2 :: I go on TOUR!!!!
Just got asked to sub on bass for the Ian McFeron Band, for the first two weeks of their two month tour!! Washington -> Idaho -> Utah -> Colorado -> New Mexico -> Oklahoma -> Texas!! Yee Haw!

Not much of a dancing crowd, but everyone enjoyed the music and we got tons of compliments. The staff screwed up the room layout, so we played @ a 90 degree angle to the crowd, but facing the dance floor. We finally did pack the dance floor with several slow songs in a row. My wife actually requested "Play That Funky Music" and we got quite an unexpected reaction with the dance floor packed again. Problem was, I normally use the Jazz on PTFMWB and I was using the Precision @ that time. It was OK, but would have been better w/the Jazz. I have spoken with her about it. There aren't many songs that it would matter, but that is one of them.

Overall though, a great night. The new guitard did OK and the band has a much fuller sound with the extra guitar. The folks who hired us were very pleased and are looking for a reason to hire us again. And they paid in CA$H.:D

Actually works out better for me. I would be stuck in Manhattans theater district for 5 hours in a tux between jobs. Now I can finish my driveway and watch my daughters soccer game.:hyper::rolleyes:

Soccer game....rained out after we drove the 1/2 hour to get there.
Driveway...... suffered some staining due to rain and it never dried right.
Gig...... got there, plugged in and....fuzzy sound. I thought I blew out my new LH500 but it turns out that I fried the Delta lf in my Avatar sb112. Had to use a 20 watt Ibanez keyboard amp. Eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Tonight I have a recording session at a church a few miles away. I earned the gig last Saturday at the tryouts, and was given a sketchy recording. I am supremely excited about this since it is a great paying gig and I have not recorded in a few years. I will let everyone know how it went on Monday. Have superb weekends everybody

Last night, a club gig right here close to home.......nice crowd, easy gig, and only 3 minute drive home. Easy.

Today, this could be one of the more interesting gigs I have ever played. Sarah Palin is coming to St. Clairsville OH, right across the river from me. The venue is the former site of a large country music festival, and we will be playing as "openers" for the event. It's amazing the security detail that's been going on......secret service has been crawling all over the place for the last several days, I had to submit my SS# for background check several days ago, and we have to arrive at 10:30 this AM to pass through security (I assume), even though we don't soundcheck until 1 PM, for an estimated 3 PM showtime (for us). Palin is scheduled to speak at 5:30 PM. This should be a very interesting day, and I'll let you all know more about it later!

For now, I'm going to go hang out with the guys in dark suits, sunglasses, and headsets. :cool::ninja:

Yesterday, local town street festival. Funnel cakes, inflatable rides, and local politicians in huge quantities. It was our first time working with a real sound guy and our first time running everything with PA support instead of just vocals, piano, and mic'd lead guitar. Also our first paying gig.

Sound guy was awesome, crowd was cool, and unlike nighttime bar gigs, my daughter got to see me play. We got good positive feedback from the sound guy and he told us that the woman who hired us (who we never actually met in person - she arrived while we played and left before we were done) said very good things.

Musically, some flubs, but we moved past them and most of them happened in funny or entertaining ways, so no problem there. Oh - and my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T worked as sufficient backline all by itself.

Friday night my country band played at the Charles Town WV Moose lodge. It's a big place with a large dance floor and a sunken bar. We had a typical night there, which means that the crowd was at it's peak at the beginning, and slowly trickled away over the course of the night. We ended the night playing "Born To Be Wild" to about 10 people. :rolleyes:

Last night was a private party out in Upperville VA, or as we like to call it, "Uppercrustyville". Lot of rich folks out there. We played under a big tent out back of the (huge) house. They had a couple of heaters, and some dancing was happening, but it was cold and damp and most folks left after the first set. We took a short break and were just saddling up for the second set, when the word came down, "you guys are done, thanks a lot, goodnight".
It's been a long time since I did a 1-set gig. Took me longer to drive there than the amount of time we played.

Coming up Thursday: a country gig at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in DC, for Deutschebank.

Edit: Oops, never mind. Bandleader just called me, it's been cancelled. Seems the Bank is not doing too well lately. Jeez, I didn't know we were THAT expensive...

"Big" gig for us tonight - outdoor church festival... complete with a bunch of carnival rides, booths, lots of food, etc. We play 8:30-10:30pm. Trying out a new rig setup that I hope works (fingers crossed). Outdoor gigs can be tricky - oh, and we can't get there in time to sound check with the sound guy, so we're going to wing it! Ugh - can't wait to see how bad that turns out. :P

Gig is at St. Paschal Baylon's in Thousand Oaks, CA if anyone is interested! ;) Free!

Playing a pretty good size venue tonight. Auditorium, seats around 1500-2000 folks when full. More concerned with how im going tonight than usual due to some personal issues im my life. Despite not quite feeling my self all my gear is working all my Basses are sounding good im ready to get out there and get it on.:bassist:

Gig went great! Stage was a nice large size, sound guys were excellent, and the place was really crowded - nice size venue for us to play. And my new rig setup performed wonderfully! Was very happy with my sound - only did some minor tweaks on my active bass for a couple songs, otherwise kept everything on the amp set the same from song 1 until the end. I think this was the happiest I have been with my live sound - so that's saying a LOT! :hyper:

Sunday morning 10:00-12:15 Tailgate party for NFL Canada on the practice field for the Buffalo Bills outside of Ralph Wilson stadium before the Bills/Chargers game. Expected crowd of 1600 coming in on 40 buses from the North Country.
Sunny day, in the 50's but low 30's in the morning. Sound check is at 8:15 :bawl:
Should be interesting.

Playing one of our "regular" clubs tonight. Hoping for a good crowd, as this particular club has been struggling of late. (I heard there was only about 30 people in there last weekend.) We have quite a few folks lined up that should be there, and I'm hoping that there will be some others besides just what the band brings in.

Good gig, went well. Sound check was a little chilly, about 35ºF but things warmed up quickly in the sun and by the time we were done it was around 52ºF. Ihad a hard time hearing myself on stage. The Backline 300w I ran through the 1-15" and it was up to 10! Next time I bring the 2-10 as well. 1200 or so drunk Canadians. I think a few of them noticed we were there. Having the Buffalo Jills on stage though was nice!:p
