Traffic violations does not make a person necessarily better than a person charged with a felony.

By law you're only a felon when you are charged as one.

By law, true. But by nature you committed the heinous crimes whether you were ever caught, convicted, whatever.

As Jared said, O.J. is still a murderer even though he was never found guilty. I still sped (maybe 5-10 miles over the speed limit) on my way to work this AM.

This is not a "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound" scenario.

Sometimes it takes the hurting of another to really teach the power to care and appreciate the beauty to love another human being.

I don't agree with this in any way shape or form. Again, I truly believe people can turn their lives around. But the concept that beating, stabbing, or raping another person ultimately teaches you how to love is beyond ridiculous. Those actions don't preclude the ability to love, but they certainly don't engender it.

We each get to decide for ourselves.

I have seen nothing in my life that leads me to believe that we can make those sorts of judgements fairly or consistently.

I've seen nothing in life that leads me to believe fairness or consistency have any real place in real life. They're nice pretty ideas that really don't jibe with reality.

Life isn't fair, never has been fair, and never will be fair - and the sooner people resign themselves to that reality and deal with it, the more successful their lives will be.

As it was said before, finding god in prison is a bit like calling the insurance agent after your car was totalled. It's great for you moving forward, but there is no delete button or re-do for your past.

I certainly am not going to treat anyone like CRAPPYYOU 1.0 never happened before WONDERFULYOU 2.0 suddenly emerged.

I still stand behind my statements, but I could have had a little bit more compassion and civility towards his family and friends. I wish them all the best through the grieving process.

But committing felonious crimes, whether convicted or not, is the crux of the issue here. Anything beyond that is sleazy lawyer tricks (no offense meant to anyone by that statement, but I picture some skanky and soulless defense attorney in a powder blue leisure suit trying to make the argument).

Food for thought: In our late teens/early 20's, my brother was known as a guy that said what was on his mind without a filter. It was really funny at times and a lot of my group used to think he was awesome for "telling it like it is" or "keeping it real" or whatever. Those same qualities that got him labeled "brutally honest" earned him the "*******" label a few years later.

He justified it by saying people didn't want to hear the truth or whatever, but the impression was the same. Many, many, many times in life, knowing when and how to say something determines how much weight what you say is given.
