Double Bass Class of 2012, where are you applying/auditioning?

Oops, I must not have seen Fryer on the faculty list , I think I comcemtrated on the other two because they were my preferences
When they asked for the bourrees I asked if they wanted to hear the repeats and they just sort of looked at me for a second like they werent expecting a question? Maybe I asked it awkwardly because I was sort of nervouse haha, Then Todd Seeber said no repeats... I'm glad because I think that's why I got to play the excerpt and show my mozart stroke.

Yeah I agree, I feel like they were spending more time with the grad students because both the grad before and after me where in there for a good 10-15 minutes, I was there for maybe half of that.
Is anybody going to the NEC audition in Monday?

So far I've been cut short on all of mine.

I'll be at NEC on Monday!! Speaking of things getting cut, I'm really banking on not having to play this one movement d Bach. They require 2 so im hoping they just want to hear 1...

Yeah my "two" movements of bach will just be the first and the second bourrees. I think I'll offer the second movement of the Kouss though to sort of make up for it. I'm hoping to get into Seebers studio, does anybody know if he plays primarily french or german? I'm pretty sure he teaches both but I'm curious.

Yeah, hence the "two".... But it asked for two contrasting pieces and a movement of a concerto, so I'm playing two movements of kouss and the bouree, I sort of flipped it but between that and the excerpts I'm still showing several different playing styles.

Looking back on this after having auditioned at Curtis with 37 other bass players... Curtis was awesome, my audition wasn't perfect but it was great to play for Hal Robinson and Edgar Meyer. How did your Curtis audition go irbassist?

37? Out of curiosity where did you get the number? The groups were divided into thirds and there were 6 people in my group so I was assuming more like 18-20. How many we're in yours?

It went not the best but that's alright. We spent more time talking than playing I think haha. Such nice people. Hal promised that he wouldn't hold it against me that I was from Dallas and a Cowboys fan haha. Being a cowboys fan doesn't usually go over well in Philadelphia.
It was definitely not my best audition. I messed up some really random spots but I went for the experience of playing for them. I never thought my chances of getting in were very high.

I had to play 2 pages of 1st mov of kouss, up to the 2nd theme in the 2nd movement. All of Bach bourrees from the 3rd suite, excerpts Mozart 39 first movement and Beethoven 5 trio.
They asked about a lot of stuff such as summer camps, my teacher, my bass, and then asked about a fingering I used in Mozart 39.
Lots of talking. Very comfortable situation.
