Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 10!)

Hey fella's, it has seriously been a loong time for me since I haven't really been on TB in a long time. BUT, since there's a new Alleva thread going, I will post up complementary pictures of my bass as well haha.

I seriously need to find a way to get to the NAMM show next year. It's a shame that I've never been to a show before all while living just 20 minutes away from Anaheim :scowl:. I wish I could've gone to try out the new Alleva's.

Anyways, here are the pics, and sadly.. I still don't have any pictures that I've taken myself.

+1 I believe Brandon is from Detroit, but have not run into him.

I'll tell you what, even with that little 'phone cam' or whatever, you can hear the SOUND of that bass come through. Gosh, I love these basses... they actually sound and feel and look and play like an old J Bass, but happen to have 5 strings and a preamp. Again, a dream come true to many of us who always dreamt of a 1965 J or a 1977 J (or whatever) that was 'handmade but old school', 5 string, active, and had 'high end boutique' playability and feel.

Even more problematic in many ways, is the Marleaux Consat Sopran, 24 frets, 57cm (21.25") scale (yeah, that's TINY). I think it had an MSRP of around 4K!!

Back to Brandon Rose... One thing I got a big kick out of and found adorable was after he got done playing, he looks at my bass and goes, "Is this maple Dad?" and Dad goes, "Yes it is Son."

I love it, the kid doesn't even know what it is but he's playing the heck out of it! To be more like him.... :hmm:

What I also think is a kick about that kid is he just wails on the bass and looks up like he's confused... like he's not sure if it was cool or not. So humble and innocent. I hope he stays that way as he continues his journey to bass monster-dom. :)

Awesome! +1.. if it sounds good, it sounds good. What a feel for a young kid to have. Very impressive. Some of those Youtube clips of him are a bit scary!

Played this all day yesterday and just had the urge to put a close-up of that amazing Surf Green Nitro finish and wonderful dark chocolate Indian RW board. Now that those Lo Rider nickels have been on for a few months, this bass just gets warmer and more 'growly/organic' by the day.

It just GLOWS! I bet it would just visually be perfect with the old school bridge option, but it sounds and plays so good I don't want to mess with it.

Ah, good info. I always understood they were direct replacements, but maybe that's only involving the way the screw holes are drilled. So, they are not identical size. That would be that I guess.

I like the sound of this enough that I probably wouldn't mess with it anyway.

I guess he could always keep the old bridge, and if he goes to sell the bass at a future date,then he could put the old bridge back on to cover any finish dents.

I dont remember any dents on my bass when i did a bridge swap between the two...but then again, i never worry too much about how perfect a bass has too look..

Im looking at my P5 right now and dont see any dents from my swap out... maybe Chef can look at his bridge area to see if there are any from when i did the swap out between the two..

Not sure of the new 2010 pricing, but my guess is about $3,500 for a base level LG4 (i.e., still about $500 less than the equivalent Sadowsky NYC). However, as posted above, any little upgrade will burn you savagely price-wise. Add nitro, matching headstock, blocks and binding, old growth board, bent plate bridge, and you are probably flirting with $6K:eek:

Thanks for the info. If I really get interested in doing this, I'll call Jimmy and get the scoop. I again don't want to really 'mess with a good thing', since the sound and feel of the bass are about perfect for me.

Also +1 on the look. One thing I love about these basses is they really feel like they are made for players, not the 'coffee table/wooden knob set' (of which I was, to my embarrassment at this point, a charter memeber back in the day). A few dings and nicks and dents actually look good on these to me.... that's what they are about... pound 'em, ride 'em hard, put 'em away wet... repeat!
