I'm 31 and I'm still way behind! I'm not really in that scene anymore, but here's an old clip of me playing for my band Funktelligence's reunion gig - this was back in 2004 but we had been doing hip hop with a live band since back in 1996. I don't come up on stage until around 3:30...

Thanks! Man that band was so much fun. I guess what happened is we all got older. When we were in that band we were very dedicated to it - did alot of "touring" which was essentially travelling far distances in a van to play shows for almost free in an attempt to "build up our fanbase". We were never at the level of a major band like you guys. We got older, started getting dayjobs, and that was that. The MC's are still doing their thing out in LA though, and alot of the guys that were in that band are currently the touring band for Mayer Hawthorne on Stonesthrow records.

That bass is my old trusty Peavey Cirrus, and that night I wasn't playing my rig. It was actually a GK head (probably an 800RB or something) through an old Ampeg 410.

No slack given. There was a camera on stage, because there are those close up drummer shots. They could easily have pointed it your direction at least once. Grrrrrrr....

wow! stonesthrow....that's crazy! definitely sounds like a very possible future for my band if we don't start seeing some serious money soon....
Great stuff Jason, now that's hip-hop I enjoy not like what's out there now. The mixture of styles and sounds is totally my thing... Just absolutely great!
I've been in a couple "hip-hop" bands out here in Cali myself, but I put hip-hop in quotes because they all ended up sounding like Rap-Rock or Linkin' Park that I ended up quitting. Nothing wrong with Linkin' Park or that genre but it just ain't me and it's not really hip-hop to me... Not that I'm an expert on hip-hop either.
