I believe Jimmy showed me the said bass. Its looks really good and probably will be the last 1600 he is going to make. He may end the model since there has not been a dema
nd for it.

This is straight from the website. Like it or not, it is a clearly stated policy. I don't see how anybody can even debate whether it's right or fair. If you don't like it, don't buy. Simple.

All sales and special orders are final. Be sure of your purchase as we do not offer refunds of any kind.

Not to nitpick, but that doesn't mention deposits. One could infer that a sale is when the bass goes out the door, and that for a special order the "purchase" is when the bass ships or is at a state that it cannot be sold to anyone else.

At any rate, for better or for worse, customer service is de facto public with the interwebs. Like most situations, there likely are a lot of facts not in evidence, so difficult to judge, and frankly not my place. But the masses will draw their own conclusions...

In response to lovefist's query:
I had the opportunity to play the blue YoShortie and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs the short-scale sound for their repertoire. To me this means mid-60's British Invasion. It is very light and extremely fun to play. That big pickup sounds incredible, has lots of gain and interacts with the tone control very well, rolled off you can get the big thump and opened up there is serious rock n' roll bite.

do you guys actually go after each other like a shark. I thought there was a lawyer brotherhood.. :smug:

Actually, I don't, personally. But if I have on occasion brought in other attorneys to do so on behalf of my clients.

In an effort to bring this slightly on topic, brotherhood is all well and good, and sometimes it does call for cutting a "brutha" some slack. But there does reach a point where even fellow sharks have to say "treat the customer right."

To further tie things together, being a "law-talking-dude" (hint: Simpsons reference), I strongly believe that there is a middle ground compromise solution, here, that would be something that both parties could buy into and live with.

Go get more TUMS:

This I WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree with!

As others- I dunno the WHOLE story & am definately not 'siding' with anyone, but as Tome says- a 'middle ground that both parties could ...live with' Seems best for all IMO

Sad tale.:crying:

this.

as someone who has a lot of experience ordering custom instruments, i always understood the deposit concept to be simple - don't start buying until you are -sure- you can finish buying.

that means, don't order an instrument when you have enough for the deposit. order the instrument when you have enough -for the instrument-.

while it would be really cool if the builder were to reimburse some of the funds, he certainly is under no obligation to, and frankly the fact that he is not willing to does not make me feel he is any less of a builder. this money went into buying parts and compensating his time for the build. it's gone already.

i would just work out a long term payment plan with the builder. putting away even as little as 50 bucks a week adds up very quickly, and a custom instrument is worth $50 less money/disposasbles a week, most folks can shave that much money off their weekly budgets, at least temporarily, without too much trouble. and if you can't then you really had no business ordering a custom instrument to start with.

i'm sure the builder wouldn't be uncomfortable with a realistic timeline to get the instrument done.

it also sounds to me like the guy who placed the order (no offense) got cold feet on the order when he lost the gig. that's no reason for a refund, or at least no reason to bend on stated refund policy, frankly.

Nobody is suggesting he's obligated.

My understanding is, this is not true. All that's happened so far is the body is cut out, which is why literally any 4 string alder body based config is still an option.

Here's the thing...

Policies like these are put in place for good reason, and I totally support them. BUT, when special circumstances exist, and there is clear room for "no harm" compromises, I just strongly feel it's in the best interest of a small business owner, especially in an elite class of product where the experience is a lot more personal and costly per unit, to be more flexible when it comes to enforcing those policies.

I know several others in exactly the same business as Jimmy, who are generally more accommodating in situations like these, and I strongly believe that actually generates more business in the long run, which more than pays for any short term inconvenience. I just think a bigger picture view is missing here, that's all.

I have 15 years of experience in customer service implementation and management, and have personally seen the very tangible benefits of "cutting a bit of slack" from time to time, so this is not me talking out of my you-know-what. Just so you know.

That said, I fully understand this is only MHO and nothing more.

I still totally respect Jimmy's capabilities, and that will never change.

The thing to remember is that we don't know the whole story so it's not fair for us to comment and make assumptions about this particular case.

All that's needed to be said has been said lets move on for now and let the two parties work it out...
Agreed.

Moving on...
