Did I miss where my buddy Jerome (alphaman) picked up a LM5. I thought he had picked up a CAOJ RA5 at some point, but I didn't here about the other.

You are quite correct ALPHAMAN Jerome does in effect have a CAOJ RA 5.

My mistake. :bawl:

It is in effect AD9000 that has the LM 5 Deluxe alluded to in my description of an instrument very similar to my LM Deluxe 5.

They are both HEAVY, but killer basses nonetheless

YOW!!!!! $6400USD!?!!?!?! Dunno about anyone else BUT I'd hope it didn't have ANY of Mr Turner's drool on it :p Some may find that a HUGE selling point I s'pose.
I find that for way less than 1/2 that $$$ my EUT5 was SUCH a bargain!
& Since I'M loving it- It certainly IS a bargain to me.

Well, part of that is the exchange rate multiplier. However, 'asking' and getting are two very different things.

And the other part is the going rate. This build, ordered today is around that same price.
I paid $399 at Manny's back in the day for my 83 Fender 61 reissue ;>D.

+1 Jimmy's pricing is a bit similar to the FBass line of basses. The 'basic models' are expensive but 'reasonable' given the quality and the price of other similar 'boutique' instruments. However, the options are EXTREMELY expensive (fancy tops, special finishes, special fretboards, etc. can easily double the price of the instrument).

That's why it is important for those shopping for an A-C to realize that the difference in TONE between a super upgraded model and a 'base model' is minimal. That doesn't mean the super expensive upgrades aren't 'worth it' or cool from an aesthetic point of view (and even a subtle tonal point of view if you are super sensitive to that sort of thing), but they sure aren't necessary if you are a player and want a great sounding, vintage inspired instrument to gig with.

IMO there.

+1 ... speaking of which, is he still doing that generic, no options build concept for short money? Sounded like a cool idea.

I don't think so, based on a post in the last megathread. However, I think the 'base models' (which have all the necessary goodies... same body and neck woods, GREAT fretboards, same pickups, preamp, etc., etc.) are still priced below the equivalent NYC Sadowsky models (unless things have really changed... haven't seen a price list in a while). However, adding every Sadowsky upgrade available is less money than a Nitro finish or a DN board on an A-C (or close to it anyway).

When I purchased my 'almost base' LM new 4 years ago (the only minor 'upgrade' was a slight upcharge for the color/finish), it was about $600 less than an identically spec'd NYC Sadowsky. I paid more used for my Nitro LG than I did new for my base LM!

Again, things might have changed a bit, but my point is, the base model LG's and LM's look, play and sound fantastic (the RA's are by definition more expensive because of the blocks and binding, etc. I believe), and are great 'working player' instruments for those who are primarily interested in tone and playability versus aesthetics.

IMO and IME again.

HUGE +1... and to the point of how super expensive Jimmy's options are. I understand why that is, so this isn't a "complaint", just a fact of life with AC basses.

Thing is, even though my bass is also one of the "Standard" models (there is a Basic beneath mine, but it's a very minor diff), I think the aesthetics are still impressive, and it's worth saying again, all those expensive options don't do much to/for the sound. Just looks. My LG is mind blowing and cost me thousands less than if I'd gone all fancy on it. For this reason, upgrades like those were not even on my radar at order time, and I've NEVER regretted that choice.

Oh yeah! I don't think the AC's prices are overpriced at all as far as the bass U get.

The UK price & the AUS price- as with ALL IMPORTED basses here (& no doubt there too) - is quite a bit higher.

Sadowsky METRO MV5PJ AU $3650 :help:

Bear in mind similar price hikes WE HAVE to put up with if we buy new from a AUS retailer

SVT-VR $3250

Heritage - over $4K :hmm:

But - again I'm just SO glad I got MY EUT5 for the price I did.

With all the talk of weight a few pages back, my wife purchased a super duper accurate digital bathroom scale, so I was finally able to weigh the LG. It comes in exactly 9 pounds. My nonrouted ash/maple Sadowsky NYC weighs exactly what the shop says it does (8.6 pounds). I don't have my LM in town, but it feels right around the same as my LG, maybe a touch lighter.

Interesting that I always felt my Sadowsky weighed slightly more than my LG (as have most that have picked them both up). I guess part of it is that it seems there is more weight in the Sadowsky ash body as a percent of the weight of the bass than the Alleva, where the neck is 'bigger' and seems to account for more of the weight as a percentage of the total weight.

Just FYI!

Interesting.

I purchased a super accurate "freight scale" for weighing gear (and boxes that I have to ship out), but it's impressive how accurate some of the bathroom scales have become. They are definitely a handy thing to have around - as long as you don't stand on them... :rollno:
