It's definitely the most vintage, meatiest jazz bass I've ever played and it's very comfortable. I love the way the neck is carved on the back where it's flat all the way down where the thumb rests. That just puts the icing on my cake! Are all the AC bass necks being carved this way now or is this just and option?

That is the one and only A-C with that profile, unless I follow through with my plan of doing it to my 2 incomings.

So far yours is the only CAOJ RA5 (that I know of) with a 1-piece neck and that profile. It's also a transition model - NYC built body in the old shape w/ a CA built neck w/ the new headstock. Unique for real.

Just a quick Check with regular AC user/owners.

My EUT5 has Jazz style Single coil pups in 70's positions- the neck pup is WAY lower almost down level with the body. While the Bridge pup is "normal" height. The relationship between the 2 pups is cool at these settings so I'm not worried, but wondering if this IS a normal thing.

Would RAISING the neck pup up a li'l drastically alter the volume ??? As I said the two pups as they're set at present - are pretty well matched in volume- how I like it.

Basically I'm wondering IF the neck pup being this LOW, is gonna alter the TONE negatively or anything??? IME I've raised & lowered pups before & only really noticed a 'choke' effect when I had a pup up too high.

Any views would be appreciated.

My only advice is to experiment. You can always lower it back down. Jimmy has me do this with the basses at the shop... He'll set the pickup height then have me try the bass then I adjust it if I feel it's needed, if he agrees then we're good to go.

Yes, it's normal. The string vibrates a LOT more over the neck pickup than the bridge pickup, so as a general rule of thumb, if you fret the strings at the very last fret, you should have about 1/8" to 3/16" gap at the bridge, and 1/4" to 3/8" at the neck pickup. That should be a good starting point, and they should be close to gain matched at that setting. Then just tweak from there if you need to.

Hey Guys, just a heads up... There is an LG5 Custom available for immediate delivery at the shop. Here's what I know about it:

New body in the "old" shape, Ivory finish in Poly w/ 60's spacing.
Reconditioned 2006 Maple neck/fretboard (for the 2007 NAMM show). The first one ever with blocks and binding. Comes with Protec Contego bag. It's considered Custom due to the Maple board.
It also comes with full warranty as a new bass would.

I will not post any pricing to adhere to forum rules; hopefully I haven't broken any already; but there is a really nice discount on this one. I will gladly delete this post if it is against any rules.

That is a great feeling neck. I had the sister to it on my LPB LG5... Two were made for that NAMM show...Sweeeeet!

Here's a quick little 'music minus 1' clip of my LG5 through a new cab I just received (amazing little box by high end audio system company Audiokinesis) with the warm, fat LMII set flat.

Bass has DR Nickel Lo Riders (not quite broken in yet). The bass preamp is engaged but flat (no bass or treble boost) and the passive tone is engaged about 25%. The cab has a few different treble setting, and I have a gentle 3.5K roll-off engaged.

Just a quick noodle to present the cab over on the amp section, but the LG sounded so good I thought I'd post it up over here.

On a somewhat funny note, I gigged the LM5 this weekend at a very large fundraiser in the Lake of the Ozarks region of Missouri... HUGE front of house system, with a state of the art digital monitoring board and system. I was using the 410UL and F500 as backline, and provided a pre EQ DI send from the head.

The soundguys were RAVING about the DI... it's so clear, it sounds so good, etc. While the MB DI's are as good as anything else (set pre EQ, the all mostly sound the same), I corrected them and said 'no it's the bass that is so clear and sounds so good'. Kind of funny... sound guys always attribute the tone to the DI, versus the player and instrument:D
