Well obviously its the ELITE member status helps. Check in counter people arent the problem. Its the people at the gate. Some will ARGUE til death that my Mono case wont fit. Ive literally had people challenge me and walk onto the plane with me as they say. "ITS NOT GOIN TO FIT" and it ALWAYS does. (unless its an express jet) No argument there.
Then they walk away like a dog with their tail between their legs.
Worse case scenario is gate checking. But even in that situaution. I walk it to the gate. It goes underneath and they return it to me as i deplane.
or if your soft case gets tagged...we always have them put it on the shoulder straps instead of anywhere else...as you walk down the runway...snatch it off..LOL
people at gate are clueless anyways. Never fails. Once we were told to NOT take the guitars on the plane for baggage space reasons.(3 of us carry on every flight) We did anyways and the gate person came onto the plane upset because we had not listened.. to then hear the captain tell her. Everything fits perfectly, no bags left behind...CAN WE LEAVE NOW...? (get of my plane basically)
Im all for backup basses..im just not down to BAG Check my axes. AC or otherwise.

True, but it still gets "handled" by crew as they throw it in the plane, shifting luggage can cause issues, and then digging it out and bringing it back to the jetway is another opportunity to mistreat it. Just too much risk IMHO.
I think your perks are basically what make it so viable for you without using an ATA case... that you always seem to be able to bring it on. Most folks don't have that deal... just sayin'...

Mos Def. but i guess id rather minimize the number of mistreating hands by carrying on than checking it in a hard case for the BELT to have its way. The few times ive checked in a hard case. my case comes back with major dents even a HOLE.
Between careless workers mistreating my gear and (from kirks TSA videos) the fear of people mishandling my JUNK. the airport is a pretty scary place to be at every other weekend. LOL
Difficult to fly with a bass now, and gate checking is often a thing of the past. If you don't have some sort of early boarding status, forget it (of course, you can get it on... sometimes). I've known guys who actually missed gigs because they've shown up with a bass and a bag and couldn't get their bass on the plane, and of course couldn't gate check it because of the soft bag.
I luckily do fly ins to mostly the same city, so I keep a bass there. On others, the agency provides an equipment van and driver who drives instruments and limited backline to the venue while the players fly. For the few others I do (international, or whatever) I ask for the agency to provide a bass for me (I can play anything).
Not like it used to be, where you could put a bass in a regular lightweight hard case and gate check with no problems.

Here is the 'hang room' set-up for tonight (Berg AE410, TecAmp S212(I), BergAE212, Audiokinesis Thunderchild... Markbass F500). Jason is primarily interested in checking out some cabs with a bit more 'punch and mid presence' than his 410UL, and he uses Markbass heads, so this will be a 'cab oriented' hang. If anything sounds particularly good to us, we will put up a clip tomorrow.
It will be fun to compare my older LM5 to his slightly heavier newer one.

Damn wish I was closer I would bring my crew of Alleva's including my most recent acquisition serial #B50025 the first Fretless 5 Jimmy ever made circa 2005...
Seems like the best solution now a days would be to bring a bolt neck bass with thread neck inserts, take it apart, and put it in your checked luggage, no?

I had a buddy who would pack his snare in his luggage and it came back twice with either the top or bottom head busted open. Literally looked like someone took a screwdriver to it and slashed.

Jason's bass is aesthetically different from mine (gloss neck, one piece neck, blocks and binding) and is about a pound heavier (maybe a pound or so heavier, IME, not that noticeable). The tone was all there and is virtually identical sounding to mine (we both had DR HI Beams on the basses). These are the best sounding 70's style 5 string I've ever experienced (I assumed all the LM's sound that way, but had not heard another one until tonight)!

It was unfortunately too dark for my recorder to work, but at least got a flash picture of Jason in Alleva-Coppolo heaven!

Awwww man i have no COPPOLO yet so i would have went for the SCOTCH and P.......No just for the SCOTCH.....lol...Great pics guys as always.
