I used my valenti 60s J with TI flats and my old polytone for a small theatre gig a few months back and it worked out really well. Favored the neck PU and cut some treble it was very warm and supportive.

My theater rig is an Eden Time Traveller WT330 head with one Eden CX110 box. Sounds great and you gotta keep a small footprint most of the time. Some of the books that call for electric and upright I will just use the KBP4 though I do play double bass; there is frequently no room.

thanks Vic! Yeah a passive P with flats is really the supportive tone they're always looking for in a theatre pit at least IME....and the KBP5 just kills....especially for all those extended range parts written for piano the B string fills space SO well!

you know, of all the flats I've tried over the years, I just could NOT get into the Pyramid Golds....bottom 3 strings were great but the E string was SO much fatter it just felt and sounded really uneven to me....and dare I say almost too much thud! haha....but hey to each his own right :D

Oh, I like 'em but come to think of it I may have LaBellas on there right now, which are fine. I like to have 45-105 but I may try the Thomastiks you like at some point. I notice Pirastro is also making electric strings now, though my local store only has the rounds (not that they couldn't be ordered if flats exist).

WOW I would love to try those....I used Pirastro Obligatos and then Flat Chromes on my upright for YEARS before I switched to Thomastik Bel-Cantos....but Labellas always get the job done....I just love the TIs cause to me they're the closest to upright strings but the tension makes them feel so much lighter and easier to play....and they pair EXTREMELY well with ACs especially the KBPs

So I have a few days off in between fly dates with one of my bands being the gear nerd that I am, I've been doing an insane amount of experimenting with both my ACs and different combinations of strings, amps, cabs, etc., I think I've come to some great conclusions.

I've been gigging with my IAmp Pro for months now and I just bought my second EA VL-210B but hands down both ACs sounded 50 times better through my Trace V6 and Epifani T-215UL. The KBP5 with TI flats sounds so fat and thick the tone just blooms out of those 15s and sits perfectly in a mix. And surprisingly, I could get almost the same fat tone but with a little more punch and clarity favoring the back pickup of my RA5 with Black Diamond rounds (B-D) and a Fodera Anthony Jackson G....the rig just brought out the best of both basses and aside from the weight of the V6, I can't understand how I could have stopped gigging with this rig. Although the deep switch on the IAmp Pro can get pretty crazy with the KBP5 and Epifani 2x15, most sound guys at venues hate it and ask me to turn it off cause it screws with whatever they think they've got going on in the FOH mix....either way, I'm slowly re-appreciating round wound strings and realizing that TI flats are a very unique string and my RA5 requires a very different setup in order to make the roundwounds respond similarly. I think I've also strayed from rounds because I hate how they sound out of the package and it instantly turns me off and makes me want to go back to flats when really I would just prefer dead rounds. Can't wait to hit the road again with my hip-hop band so I can rock this setup!

Haven't taken it in yet...in fact, I haven't plugged it in since we last talked. I totaled my car last week (I'm okay) and I've been caught up in that stuff. I'm hoping to take it to a shop later this week or early next. I'm cautiously optimistic it will be a cheap fix, since it worked fine when we played through it.

After several months of playing nothing mostly my Sadowskys, I took the LG5 ouot last week.

The band was all "man, you need to get back into bringing that bass out."

Yeah, I do.

Mitch, I took my flats off my LEPJ cause I liked the sound of the rounds on it better. The flats made it seem like it was missing something. To me, nothing better than dirty rounds! LOL
But, the vids you've posted with KBP5 & flats sounds wicked!
