Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 16)

I know we all gush about how great our basses are but I gotta post on how killer my LM5 is...I've had tons of basses but never had one that matched up with me and my tonal goals as well as feel preferences as much as this one. It's like me and the bass have similar personalities - when I play it the notes just jump off the fretboard like it knows where I'm going before I get there. I guess part of that is how "alive" Jimmy's basses look and feel, and the other part is this one just being a great matchup for me.

I'm completely done with bass GAS at this point, even for another A-C. This bass is the ONE.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have a few basses that are in the "inner circle" that I bond with like this, and my LG5 is one of them. Like you said, it's just "alive" when I play it. It's everything I've always wanted from a 60's spec J and never been able to find before. I've just about got the strings worn down to where I can justify replacing them, and when I do, I'm going nickel. As much as I do really like the AC SS's on it, I'm REALLY looking forward to that!

Seriously though, it's not "heavy" in an absolute sense. It's just "heavy" relative to my Sads. Definitely not a boat anchor by any stretch.

And I agree, it does sound really, really, really good! :D :bassist:

I'm happy for you Jason, it makes me real proud to have had a small part in making that bass.

I am really starting to feel that way about my LM5 as well.

Well, I'll never be a tombowlus, but I do have several basses, and yeah, I'm one lucky SOB with pretty much all them (at least for my tastes of course), but you may be surprised how small that inner circle really is. Small diff from 1st to 2nd tier of course, but there is one. And I guess to Jason's point, that circle has shifted a little over time, but there is only one "short list" at any given time. :)

Venn model doesn't work, because it's not about shared traits, but actually the opposite... differentiation. :)

You'd never know it, really.
I fer-real only use my main 6.
The other 14 are in gig bags, hanging in the closet of my music room, and only get occasional use; mostly cause they're 4 bangers...all ancient G&L's and Fenders.
Great stuff, but I really prefer 5'ers. I still use those 14, but, pretty "situationally."
