My AC EUT5 GASSING for a KBP5 & saving saving......
This bass FLOORED me from the ist notes I played on it. I use it 50% in passive mode & when in active, 95% of the time I leave the 2 band EQ alone(unless room needs a bit of sound tweaking) simply using the Tone control- SUPERB!

I have a few questions for you owners... I could e-mail Jimmy, but I guess he's very busy and since you seem always prepared to share your wisdom...:
- I know 1-7/8" nut width on a fiver is standard, but can you choose 1-3/4" as well?
- Is lefthanded a free 'option'?
- I read somewhere that a DN fingerboard is an extra $1k, is that correct?
- LG is 60s pickup spacing, LM is 70s, correct?
- Is there a big volume difference when you switch the preamp from active to passive?
- Can you ask for a lightweight bass?

Or maybe even more! Personally, I think his "standard" rosewood is so great the DN is not even close to being worth the upgrade price, but that's a very personal choice of course.
Yep, and the LM is an ash body and maple board, whereas the LG is an alder body with a rosewood board.
If you don't have the bass/treble boosted in active mode, no.
You can always ask.
Seriously tho, this was kind of a running joke between Jimmy and I for a while. His tonal goals and his available wood... at least last time I spoke to him, which was a while ago at this point... didn't really make a particularly light bass a possibility... especially if it's an LM (ash). So it's really more about the lighter weight stuff from whatever he has or can get, which may or may not be what you personally consider light. Just gotta' talk to him.
If I were ordering a new LG and money was an issue, I'd put the DN money towards a Nitro finish instead. The Nitro finish looks, feels, "sounds", great. I just love the look of mine. It has a glow to it that is amazing!
I spoke to Jimmy about getting a light weight LM. Vic's right, it doesn't seem all that likely... I'm sure you can get something on the lighter end of the spectrum, but I don't think you'll be getting anything under the 9.5 LB range.

I am strongly considering getting the Hippy bass, but i want to add his preamp box to get that LG sound.
Do you guys think i will pretty much have an LG or just get an LG standard?

You'll have the AC sound, warm and fat! You'll have everything that's offered on the LG, his pups and pre. Just missing poly or nitro finish. Which I think you will not miss.
if youre handy with an iron, id install it in the bass. unless he's changed, mine is just the onboard thrown in a box. the sadowsky outboard i had had the circuit directly mounted to the pots
duh, didnt think about that.. doh! if you have a repair shop nearby, the route can be done cheap. i had a 75ri routed for a gotoh battery box which was pretty cheap and then wired the whole thing up myself.
Normally 12-18 months but i changed my order from a LG 5 to a Tom Barney 5 ( 18 mm spacing) so there is some more delay.
But i can assure you its worth the waiting ...

I thought the Tom Barney (TB) model was basically a narrow spaced RA perhaps anything Jimmy does in 18mm will be called a TB?
