Thanks man. The new shape looks odd to me in some of the photos I've seen -- but it's really hard to tell.

I have a new body style LG5 coming today so I'll have the chance to try new and old side by side.

If I hate the new one, there will be a mint TTB LG5 available by the weekend!

I have had 3 of the old style and a LG5 that has the bigger body. I like both but I like the new bigger body just a
little more. I think you'll like the new body style just fine.

I would agree....both my ACs are the old body designs and I think they feel perfect. I was just at the shop this past weekend and played a couple of the newer body designs and while they felt amazing and sounded incredible, I still preferred the feel of the smaller bodies. Wish mine had that newer neck pocket though!

And for those who have never been to the shop, this was my first time seeing the new one in CA. Jimmy really is running a one man operation out of that space with a ton of help from Rick who I got to hang with and watch him work and get covered in wood dust ....but the attention to detail is incredible and Jimmy really is insane about what he does and how he does it....I find that kind of passion is rather rare in this day and age and it makes me feel good to know that kind of love and attention went into instruments that help fuel my passion.

I was also able to affirm my love for the RA5 as my favorite of Jimmy's basses....there's just something about that wood combo and pickup spacing that does it for me. I don't know....btw, here's a pic of it with my full setup for the next O.A.R. tour in January!

haha thanks! Obviously I could have hung with you guys all day but I could tell my non-musician friend Deniece was getting overwhelmed not knowing a thing about gear so I didn't want to make her suffer since she drove me all the way from Santa Monica....but if my tour dates don't coincide with NAMM in January I'll see you there! I keep trying out both knobs wide open and I just can't get used to the sound haha it's a little too "wild" for me if that makes sense....

What is meant by a new neck pocket ?

Does that mean access to the 20th and 21st fret is less of a challenge for reach and playability

OR ?

Apologies if this has already been covered but I'm accessing on an iPhone and searching for something as generic as 'new body' can be tricky

On the Trace V-Type conversation - I have to say I've owned a few and never got on with them. They used to sell really cheaply over here in the UK, especially the V-Type pre-amp, so were easily available.

I always found them lacking in sparkle and dynamics, just seemed to make my bass sound like it was being sieves through a layer of mud, lol.

I'm a big fan of valve/tube amps as well - my two favourite amps ever have been an early Ampeg SVT II and an Aguilar DB 750.

Maybe there's something intrinsically 'different' about the Ampeg/Aguilar sounds compared to Trace?

haha unfortunately not as my basses have the same problem....but supposedly the newer wider body also features deeper cutaways allowing better access to the higher frets....the new neck pocket is simply this design Jimmy brought back from Fender basses in the 50s where there was this extra lip to help solidly hold the neck in there....not sure how much it really does but it looks pretty legit and is one of the new features I wouldn't disagree with....

the V-types can def get muddy but it's a pretty easy amp to figure out how to make it sound how you want. You can also pull the mid knob out and it suddenly becomes all about brightness and harmonics and slap, whereas with it in it's all fat and warm....muddy to some maybe but not in a band situation!

Also - how much bigger is the new body?

Yes, but I don't think it's encoded, so we can't figure it out exactly at least. I think you just have to email it to Jimmy and ask.

My LM is 49, and I purchased new in early 2007. So, my guess is both of ours were made in late 2006 to early 2007 in the New York shop.

Heads-up, I'm going to try and trade my TTB LG5 for an older one if anyone's interested...

I'm looking only for the identical bass but with the older, slightly smaller body. I'm looking for another Three tone burst, DN board, Nitro, etc bass only.

The only other thing I would consider would be a TTB KBP5 Classic Supreme plus cash.

I'm sure I can/will get used to it over time. I figured I'd throw the trade offer out there in the meantime.
