Don't forget how much it costs to bring a bass unto the UK.
Let's say a basic price in USA is $3,500 new then that would work out at $3,750 insured and shipped.
Import duties and taxes are 23% = $865 bringing total up to $4,615.
UK conversion with bank charges would make this just over £3,000. If a dealer accepts payment by credit card he'd have to allow another £100 just to break even.
Although this is a purely hypothetical example It's really not uncommon for trade prices in UK to equal US prices on a £ for $ basis so a $3,500 could easily show up in a UK dealer at £3,500
This is true of all sorts of US sourced products, not just guitars. It's our local taxes at 20% that our the killer, some European countries can raise these up to closer to 30% with all duties paid!
