Don't forget how much it costs to bring a bass unto the UK.

Let's say a basic price in USA is $3,500 new then that would work out at $3,750 insured and shipped.

Import duties and taxes are 23% = $865 bringing total up to $4,615.

UK conversion with bank charges would make this just over £3,000. If a dealer accepts payment by credit card he'd have to allow another £100 just to break even.

Although this is a purely hypothetical example It's really not uncommon for trade prices in UK to equal US prices on a £ for $ basis so a $3,500 could easily show up in a UK dealer at £3,500 :(

This is true of all sorts of US sourced products, not just guitars. It's our local taxes at 20% that our the killer, some European countries can raise these up to closer to 30% with all duties paid!

I know but although I am aware of all that , when I am looking at a bass what I do is look at the bass , try out the bass and then look at the price for that bass.

You are preaching to a group of guys who have been more then happy to pay the price of admission on ACs, don't think you'll get much support. International buyers have it tougher no question.

I was merely voicing my surprise at the price I saw and answered a follow up post.

I don't really understand what you're saying here (and I promise I'm not trying to be argumentative).

Do you mean that Jimmy's prices are too high in the first instance and that AC's are only worth buying on the used market?

Or maybe dealers should sell cheaper in overseas markets and not make a profit?

Or maybe something different completely :)

It's very simple:
Items are worth what the market is willing to pay there's no such thing as too cheap or too expensive.
If Jimmy is back ordered 18 months and has more and more orders coming in obviously his basses are worth what he's asking.

... to the right buyer... and IMHO, that's the key to the whole thing.

As someone who prefers high end instruments, I REFUSE to be critical of someone who's perfectly happy with an inexpensive instrument. I would just hope that those who aren't into the high end stuff would also not be critical of those who are. Instrument selection is HIGHLY PERSONAL, which is why it's fertile ground for flame wars if people on both ends of the scale don't respect that TRUTH.

IMHO as always. :)

Totally agree.
What suits your personal wants and needs is probably pretty different from me, be that pricepoint, voicing, aesthetics....
lots of room for different folks to like different things!

I am not trying anything but stated the impression, my first thought, when seeing the price asked. No more no less.
An inconsequential remark, really.

If AC's are worth it is subjective.
If The prices are too high is decided by the customers and as long as the business runs, they are not, I'd say.
If I was a dealer, would I stock them if not in the US?...I am no dealer and have not done the market research I'd have to do in order to make a decision such as this.


...and no, I did not take your post as argumentative.:)

Anybody knows what is Jimmy's schedule in the shop? Been trying to contact him for the past month and no replies to my emails and no one seems to be picking up the phone!

Thought id share a pic i took of my tutorial video shoot. Its in my recording studio. Not gonna be anything super fancy. Im definately going for more informative than entertaining.

I brought the gang together for the shoot.
Two LG5 classic supremes and one KBP4 classic supreme.
