I love it... I'm fairly new to the A-C game, so I'm still finding my voice with Jimmy's basses, I've only owned 2 so far... Well, I sold the first so there you go. But I want to find "my" A-C bass, my current LM is really making a case for it, but I am really looking forward to my incoming LG5... I get the feeling that could be my Poudah bass. And speaking of Miko's bass, he found "his" on the first try.

I've totally found my AC voice and it's the RA5!

Ill bet that would be nice.. Every Spalted that Jimmy has made was real light.. And Miko's !! whewww ....That is a real nice sounding bass and light as a feather..

Hey Kirk, I really enjoy the different flavors that each model brings, but for what you said you're looking for I'd try an RA. You can have it lighter as (IMO and as you already know) alder sounds great on the lighter side , but you also have the punch, clarity and definition from the poly'd maple neck and pup position.

I'm in the camp that likes heavier ash better than lighter ash- my current LM Limited Edition sounds great at 10 pounds (which is even lighter than I'd order ), but my RA5 Tom Barney kills at just a hair below 9.

Over the years Jimmy's basses have taught me alot about alder ( I always favored ash/ maple) and the RA is a pleasing unique voice in a 5.

That KP5 sounds pretty darn good also..I've played both your basses ( the KP5 for a week) and they are both great.
I think though you'd probebly make most basses sound good anyways :)

Do you have any clips of the RA?

Ha.... ya that sounds familiar! Good thing Jimmy does not build Tom's WEIGHT spec into a Tom Barney eh?! Better to keep it at string spacing and neck dimension :)

I think Tom's weight requirement for ash would probebly be even too heavy for me!

You are too kind...

Are you going to Summer NAMM?

well thank you! The ACs certainly make it a lot easier....don't get me wrong the KBP5 is unreal. It plays just about every vintage Precision I've ever owned/played under the table but it only does THAT sound. THAT meaning that classic P-bass thump. If that's the sound I need for a gig or a recording, it's not even a thought which bass is going with me but the RA5 is just so versatile and has a uniquely warm tone for a jazz it just kills in almost any musical scenario. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any video of me with the RA5 as of yet but I'm workin on it!

I wish I could go.... Im lucky to be out on tour this summer.. Heading to Europe then the states.. Lost a tour 2 years ago casue i was in the hospital for a few days short of a month with botched gall bladder surgery.. :rollno::rollno: I almost bought the farm on that one.
Now Im making up for lost time.. ;)
