Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Closest AC dealer to me is Bass San Diego. I was lamenting how one cannot really decide on a bass simply by looking at it online and assuming it will sound a certain way. My wife said "Oh well, I guess we'll have to go to San Diego for a couple of days then, won't we?" At first I thought she was kidding, turns out she wasn't. :) This should be fun!

He did a few jazz basses first....
He built a few early ones in the late 90s. MOSTLY Guitars.. I pushed and pushed him to make basses.. Jimmy is guitar player and he didn't have any interest in making basses at that time. India Ari and Nile Rodgers from Chic have his early guitars.
I rode him and pushed for a few years then he made a few basses. One of the 1st ones was a DAKOTA RED jazz bass.. .

My KBP4 and John from Duran Durans were the first 2 p basses. Same lot of wood. His and mine are the only 2 p basses with the reddish African RW fingerboards. I think there is a JAzz bass or two with the same African RW..

Hey guys I need some help!

What do you all use for OD? I bought and am trying out a Darkglass VMT Microtubes pedal to use with my RA. I'm mostly wanting just a bit of grit on some songs. I play mainly praise and worship at church sets and usually every set has at least one song where the bass line is pretty driven. I've had the BB preamp in the past and I liked it, but I wanted to try the VMT because of its blend capability. Again, for just a slight bit of dirt what goes well with your guys' AC basses?

I totally get where you're coming from, and have similar experiences here, albeit not with AC basses, but nowadays, I just make em do it. Indignantly. Feck em. It's their job

Seriously, Darkglass VMT is pretty good for the situation you mentioned or you can get a Vintage Ultra for more flexibility, so you can just kick in the drive when needed. For OD and besides Darkglass's, I will use Sansamp Bass driver (with minimal blend), Roger Mayer Bass voodoo (with tube amp only) or Way Huge Pork & Pickle Bass Overdrive, they are all good to nail the tone with a little bit of grit, of cos, you can always go really nasty with all those mentioned pedals as well.

Thanks for all that man. Some of those pedals I haven't even heard so I'll have some research to do.
I tried out the VMT this past weekend and it's a good pedal. I like the sound of it, but at least live during the music set I thought it got a bit too dark.
So I took the setup to my house, recorded a bit of clean bass into my Noble and into Pro Tools through a UAudio Apollo interface. I love the clean signal btw. After I mapped it, I duplicated the stem into another track, output it to a line out and bussed it back into the pedals. This way I could test the VMT without the "live" factor. I actually found a setting on the pedal that is probably as close as I think I'll get to what I'm envisioning. And to my surprise, yes it does darken the high end a bit, but it's not a bad thing. Overall I found that the setting I like is around 80 dry / 20 wet signal with not too much boost in th drive.
Hopefully I'll have $ budget soon to look into the other pedals you mentioned.

Yes, VMT is aim on reproduce some kind of tube-amp sounding, so it may takes the hi end a bit intentionally, or you can roll the ERA knob all the way to the right in order to get as much hi as possible. :)

I just noticed today that there is a used LG5 Standard at Corner Music in Nashville, TN, listed on Reverb.com as having 18 mm bridge spacing. Not officially a TB, but it has the right spacing. I think they're looking for $4,200. Painted a soothing metallic emerald green. Good luck with your quest!

Happy holidays .My lg5 CS is a great fit for holiday gigs this week. 10 person band. Just sits right in the mix with board flat. Just a little cut on board of the deep lows . Soundmen love the ac through noble pre for the big auditorium

Jimmy and Alleva Coppolo basses will be at NAMM this 2019. I think it's BOOTH 2448 downstairs in its usual area.
Namm has the Alleva Coppolo company listed under B.A.C enterprises Inc.

I just had my gig for the end of Jan postponed until mid Feb So I'm going to NAMM. Id rather go on vacation actually.. But I will be posting photos from the NAMM floor..
Jimmy wont be there SUNDAy since he is going to the Vintage Guitar show. But I'll be at the booth on and off
