Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Question ? Has anyone out there in AC Land ever had the pickups raised ( professionally done by a repairman where the pickups had to be removed and foam placed under them a la old Fender pickups --where the rubber has hardened over the years and needed replacement so pickups could be in effect adjusted up and down to height preferences for maximum tone and feel ). I use my LM only in PASSIVE mode and the tone I get is perfect for my situations as well as UNIQUE and uncoloured. I don't want to bother Jimmy until post NAMM...glad he's going and wish I could be there :) Thanks for any info.

Well, the sound of crickets tell me the body of senators here sittin' in the Alleva Coppolo House are not too warm to small state delegates like me (lol), NOT using that fabled AC preamp--but I do....c'mon ? Studio PASSIVE ---LIVE PREAMP. Surprisingly and delightfully with age (8 years old this NAMM) the 2 pieces of wood that make up this instrument have a ton of character au natural--especially recording. 1 piece neck. 1 piece body. I am confident that there will be more great tones in adjusting the pickup heights. Done.

I have my pickup height adjusted from time to time. Absolutely you get different sounds depending on the height. Well, depending on the pickup height, action, your playing, etc. Just last month I had a conversation with Kirk about adjusting pickup height to one's personal needs and preferences. I've never needed to replace the material underneath the pickups though.

I agree with you, passive AC= perfect tone. BUT, I also think active AC= More Perfect tone.

Ya, very cool looking bass with a good spec...will it be at the booth?

Ahh...see anything else in Dakota red Yohan?;)

And of course I had to get a pic with my boy.

Dayam .....that is gorgeous to the bone--TONE is guaranteed likely. Jimmy is a Master Builder Artisan without equal in the Electric Bass domain. NAMM should be killing'--wish I could be there.......I'm liking that one hiding in the very back. Kinda looks Fiesta Red with a Maple board, and an anodized guard ???

Hey guys,

I'm GASsing for a pedal compressor and I need help.

Anyone wanna talk me out of getting another Origin Effect Cali 76 Compact Bass?

I had this pedal last year and didn't love it, BUT last year I was mostly playing a Music Man that was good but not an AC. The Compact Bass seemed either too subtle or too harsh and not much in between. It might've been that it was a used pedal and something was off... I doubt it. Maybe I just never liked the Music Man - I'm leaning more towards that idea.

What are you guys using for compression?

I like my Seymour duncan Studio Bass pedal.. It has a BLEND knob which is essential for me. Its NOT super squishy type of compressor and that's why I like it
