Yes, totally agreed that I am nuts. I'm just doing a 'downsizing' of sorts lately. It's such strange phenomenon for me as I usually fall back on my 'collector tendencies' and tend not to sell a lot of stuff.

Swapping the decked out LM for Ken's more basic version nets me a few bucks and I'm sure will keep me whole from a sonic standpoint.

The guy who's getting mine is going to flip when he gets it. It's even better than it looks.

I had it for a long time, and it covered a zillion gigs for me. I more sold the '70's J thing' than 'selling the A-C'. The P works a bit better in the pop music I play and have been playing for decades. Amazing how the P tone has totally, completely come back into pop recordings, hip hop, etc. these days. Really dig it.

This LM, even though all the ones I've played sounded VERY similar, was something a bit special to me and many who have played it (and being a relatively early one from the NY shop is pretty cool also). It was good to get it out there and have someone use it. Joel will give it a good home, and if for some reason he doesn't dig it as much as I think he will, there is always 'Jonno to the rescue'!!!! (It is 'out for delivery' EDIT: DELIVERED!).

To answer you question, I play a Nordstrand VP5 primarily. Very nice, lightweight 'modern P/80's' vibe, which I like... it almost vibes a PJ.

I totally agree because Bruno Mars bassist is grooving the crap out of a P bass. right now I'm using a Lakland DJ5 with an outboard Sadowsky pre for my pop/r&b gigs but I'm considering a 5 string P.

once I saw Thad Tribbett destroy a gospel show with a 4 string P bass I was convinced that a P CAN do anything. After this last couple of weeks touring with ONLY my KBP5, I'm realizing I can pretty much thin my herd down to my Alleva KBP5 and my Fodera :). The Fodera gets used on anything I can get it on, and the Alleva covers anything and everything, regardless. Even though it sometimes feels like a one trick pony with flats on, it just melts right into the mix perfectly on every stage, every night. How could anyone complain about that?

Its cool that your diggin that Kbp5.
I need to call jimmy tonight.. I have an Lg on order... Im going to swap the order to get another kbp5...
Ive been bouncing some new pickup configs around with him over the phone...
Gonna see how it goes..

Im doing a country session tomorrow out of town.. Brought the kbp4 and 5 and a RW P with flats and REDDI...
I leave my nyc sadowsky home lately on out of town dates becasue they seem to favor the kbp5.
I love the feel of my broken in nyc Sad though.. it has battle scars.. :)

But this sparkle "Ava Maria" kbp is serious stuff.

KBP5 is just straight up incredible. I've played a bunch of P5s and the Allevas just kill. This purple one in particular, but Kirk you know I've played that sparkle P and I know that thing is insane. The pickup is def darker than any vintage Fender I've owned, but when you find that sweet spot with the tone knob, it's like P bass heaven!

Here's a vid of our final encore at one of our later shows of this past leg with the KBP5. The ending is straight up hilarious!

I saw your video on FB.. Real cool..Looks like fun too.. Glad that she is real cool.. I guess the EA rig is working.. Are you running DI out of your head or separate DI?

I have some of Jimmy's Nickles heading this way..

Just got off the phone with him.. Changed my LG5 to a Custom Classic Supreme KBP5. Dalbergia FB, xtra lightweight Alder body , with Nitro (EDIT '64-ish) Sunburst.. And Im gonna have him throw a Hum Cancelled J in the 60s bridge position for those days when i just want a slight different flavor,,
The body may have been cut already .. He's gonna take a look at it tonight. It was the ORIGINAL kbp5 body that he and I went over as the prototype kbp5 when he was back in the NYC shop.
That body was a template and never made into a bass...
So i may get that body. We went over with pencil and calipers 8 years ago.
If it weighs in I'll take it. He just got a pile of real lightweight alder in. So.. Ill have my pick..

same here....DR sunbeams sound great IME, as well as Jimmy's nickels, and the Black Diamond nickels I use. But I always go back to TI flats. They just work really well on these basses. Tried other flats, too....just weren't the same!

oh man, I would LOVE a J pickup back there! I wonder how much he'd charge for that....
