Well Its pretty straight forward i thought. I really don't know what there is to expand upon.
I have been lucky to play quite a huge selection of P5s at NAMM including those of friends.. Even Kjungs Nord while at NAMM. Nice paint-job on that bass. Does it sound vintage . No.... For some folks that is good thing.. They don't want or need that.
Many of guys that love a Jazz bass will not like a P bass.
There are a few dozen threads here on TB with Jazz Bass vs P bass wars.. Each side of that civil war stating their case of which is better and why or which is better for METAL.. HA
If you are a guy that is into P basses, especially vintage sounding/feeling P basses, welllllll.....
You know the ones that are made of highly resonant woods, That have extremely stable necks without using stiffening rods, you will dig the Alleva. Especially when they have a very true vintage response. Then you will dig the Alleva.
My memory of Pbass's are my old 62 and 65-ish. ( I say 65-ish becasue it is stamped 65 on the neck but it has a slab fingerboard). I don't own any capped P basses.. My buddy has a rare Maple capped neck PBass.... OK I digress.
Anyway,I am used to my old Fenders, as is Jimmy. That why we worked to make his P4 and 5 the way they are.
His Vintage Fender Collection is a rarity .
I put my foot down on what i thought was a tool box under his work bench one day. It wasn't a tool box, it was a 55 Fender P bass. They are stashed everywhere in cases off premises.
If im gonna buy an old fender , I will run it past him first, becasue he is one of the main guys to go to in NYC and now LA that KNOWS the old ones. Its his passion and his art..
I think that what he does now better than anyone , is that he is close and true to what LEO fender was doing 50 years ago.. He actually uses some of Leos old tools, and jigs etc..
Yes he has a CNC now, That he uses to do jobs for other builders as well his own stuff. He still does old school pin router basses every time i see him.
IMO there is not any other P5 that comes close to that vintage phat warm and articulate tone of a vintage P than the Alleva. Its the sound of Motown to OZZY, the Commodores to TOP. And now jimmys basses are showing up in today's modern recordings by new and old artists..
Some people don't dig vintage tone. Thats very OK..
Some people LOVE it and know the difference it can make at times. Not always.. ..
So if you like that vintage feel/ tone in a P bass , then you will love the Alleva. But if you want that more modern thing in a bass that many Jazz bass players seek , you wont dig it as much. But there are also Jazz bass players that are looking for that Vintage Jazz tone too.. another story
This forum is FULL of Pbass vs. Jbass civil wars. I'm sure that all of us have weeded though one or two of those threads. Witnessing each side taking their stand...
IMO There is NO right or wrong. Its whatever works for you. In fact I want Jimmy to make me an EB2 style... That will be different.
