If it was, then it's the one I was thinking of. Kinda heavy, but with a monster thump... I think Marcus played it at that NAMM show, and sounded fantastic (not that Marcus couldn't play a telephone pole and make it sound fantastic).

Back a number of years ago I had this dumb idea that I was going to find a 5 string bass that felt and sounded like an old Fender. It was a fun journey but in the end I spent a lot of time and money but never did find that instrument. I did find a bunch of cool things out about instruments, my preferences and a better focus on playing so it was not all for nothing.

I recently bought a Fender American Vintage '64 jazz bass. Needed some fret leveling, the tech I use works in a very high end vintage shop. He agrees this bass plays and feels more like the stuff he works on every day than all the other basses I've come in the door with.

Now if I could just rid myself of the thought that I won't be able totally disconnect from that pesky low B.

Lastly a friend of mine just turned me onto the Jazz Pistols, been doing a lot of listening the past week. I think he plays a Fodera, love what they're doing but wish he had a set of single coils in that bass.

i spent a bunch of time and money hunting down 5 strings that sounded like my old fenders and i still just gig 4 string fenders:crying::rolleyes:

I am reasonably certain that the bass here belonging to Tom Shepp IS NOT the same bass Marcus was playing at the NAMM SHOW. I know the person who has that exact bass Marcus was playing. It is kinda heavy ( he claims- I have personally never played it ) and it is a Limited Edition 1 piece ash body.:cool:

You know what, you're totally right. There was some confusion when we originally got that one INSTEAD of the 1-piece. But I checked our photo archives, and that bass was definitely here!

It's a bit confusing. Numbers 1 and 2 were working protoypes, Norm has number 3, I don't know about number 4, and we had and sold number 5 last week; I think it was the first production model, but I could be mistaken. I'm often proven wrong, even when I FEEL like I know everything :D

Agreed. I can see that my bass is not a one piece body.
Can I find out more info from the serial number? Like production date etc.
