Speaking of AC pickups, I just recently put in a new set of Jimmy's P5 pickup into my 2008 KBP5. The bass was good before but it jumped up to to a whole new level with the new pickup. The new one has much more of that growl that I associate with vintage P-basses. I'm not sure what exactly Jimmy changed in the new spec -- but the new ones definitely move the bass even closer to an authentic 5 string version of a great vintage Precision. The B string is also much more integrated with the rest of the bass -- I'm really digging it.

I think it's amazing how Jimmy doesn't rest on his laurels -- He keeps improving the instruments and his designs.

DIdn't realize Jimmy has improved/changed his pickups, just thought he re-designed the covers only!

Agreed. Jimmy is a creative guy. He also has some new Jazz pups with old wire ...he sent me the test set and they sound great. Not sure if he's offering them in all the basses yet or not though.

Hi Kirk - this one is for you. Just bought a second hand RA5 but with an ash body. I noticed that the inside of the preamp cover was signed by you and says "Hi Dave - NAMM 2012". On the inside of the pick guard it says "Aguilar custom".. I'd love some info if you have any.?. I of course can ask Jimmy, but I thought you may have some info seeing as though you signed it - and also that the guys here may find it interesting. The RA5 is amazing. The KBP4CS I ordered two almost 2 years ago is pretty darn good too. The best of both worlds here.

I used my KBP last night with the new pickups in it and it killed. It was a big NYE gig in a packed room -- and the bass just sat perfectly in the mix. I love that bass. Alder/Nitro/DN/TI flats.

That's the one. It's a great bass. I shimmed the neck a hair since I got it and it plays lie a dream.

EDIT: Mitch, I didn't mean this as a negative reflection on you by an stretch! Just for the record!

As a matter of fact, I hope you have some more AC's to sell more!

I've shimmed every one of my ACs -- Mostly because I'm slightly neurotic about how I like the neck angle to feel! ;-)

That bass sounded great.....and bar none Jimmy's "Fender guy" does the best bursts imo. They seem to be quite consistant also over all the ones I've seen...

The binding and dots on yours looks really sweet also. I had a similar one that I regret selling.

Yes, Jimmy's nitro 3TBs are the best. My LG and KBPs are just works of art. The bust on the LM is beautiful as well but it's a different thing. In hindsight, I'm feeling a little too burst heavy... I wish I would have kept my natural LM. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one.

Not sure what you mean...but probebly best to get the answer and answers to any other related issues about trying this from Jimmy :)

Not a good idea. The P will not be in the right spot and it would be half on and half off the pickguard. But yes there is enough space between the pickups. This isn't neccesarily a Jimmy or AC question as he and many others are using standard Fender pickup locations.
