I guess the good news AND the bad news is that 'classic' bridge option brings with it all the issues of the original Fender bridge.

The standard hipshot is just so solid and easy to deal with that I would not consider any other on any A-C at this point. However, if you were really going after that 'full vintage' vibe with the old RW board, nitro, etc., on an LG or P model, I guess it makes sense, and just like with older Fenders, you will get the 'good with the bad' regarding bridge performance.

The good news is that I believe the vintage and hipshot bridges use the same exact mounting holes and size, so if that 'quirks' of the optional vintage bridge become too much of a hassle, you can easily swap for the 'standard' bridge, which is a joy to deal with. I would assume the tone impact would be, at most, minor.

+1 Exactly....

I've got the bent plate on my KBP5 that's nitro with a DN board and I wouldn't change it for the world. That being said if I was ordering a new bass from Jimmy I'd stick with the hipshot. It all dependds on how far you want to take it.

I've had zero issues using the locktite, it just needs to be reapplied after making adjustments. I've had no issues with side to side movement.

You shouldnt have to re apply the loctite as just a little should ad the correct amount of friction on the threads to keep the saddles from sliding up and down on there own even after many many adjustments.
Too much loctite and being re applied could start to wear away the threads...

I have never had to reapply I should have been more clear. The previous owner had used locktite and when I received the bass I made adjustments and they didn't stay pat so I had reapplied. I don't know what the length of time between the two applications was..

The LM5 was 'wumpin and funkin' this weekend. What a bass. It continues to just blow me away every time I play it... tone, weight, playability, balance, look...everything. I just have never owned an instrument that speaks to me as well... in tone and in 'feel'. Amazing bass IMO and IME!

Have you actually taken the LG out on any of those gigs yet? I'd be really interested to hear what you think of it in a live gig situation... I can't tell from your posts for sure, but it seems like it's pretty much only been your home practice bass since you got it. Man, every time I take my LG out, it just seems like the perfect balance of everything for a J style bass. I have as much big rich tone, as much growl, and as much high end sizzle as I need. It is currently neck and neck with my one other significantly favorite J style bass, and that's really saying something for me!

It's really not my thing, but it is a beautiful instrument for what it is. I am a fan of the 70's thing, and the 60's thing is really not where my heart is at. However, I love the LG for what it is (and like it MUCH better with more appropriate nickel strings on it now... the Hi Beams just didn't fit that instrument IMO), and have done a straight ahead gig with it and dug it a lot. It's a totally different thing from the LM, and the LM is much closer to the Sadowsky NYC vintage ash/maple with singles that we both like (but more 'Fendery/punchy/organic' and 'growly', versus the uber aggressive grind of the Sadowsky and the bigger, more modern low end).

If you dig 60's style instruments, the LG is just wonderful. If you dig 70's style instruments, not so much IMO and IME (duh!)

I also find it is MUCH easier to dial out the aggressive upper mids of a 70's style instrument to at least somewhat mimic the smooth warmth of the alder/RW type instrument. I find it literally impossible to dial that in with an alder/RW instrument, especially the LG, which is so 'accurate' of the period bass it was modeled on. I can get within 80% of the LG with my LM, but not even close the other way around. There is just no way to artificially dial in that grind IMO and IME.

I'm sure there are just as many players thrilled with their LG's as I am with my LM. It just depends on your tone goals, of course. That being said, the RA really doesn't speak to me at all.

It's a cool bass, and I can see why the guys who dig them really dig them. It's kind of an average of the LG and LM, and it's MUCH closer in tone to my LG than my LM. It's kind of like an LG with more sizzle, and I've grown to very much dislike what I now call 'alder sizzle'... that kind of upper treble click that disappears with the first ride cymbal hit. And, the combination of (it seems) alder body with 70's pickup spacing really sucks the 'bridge pickup burp' out of this instrument to my ear.

Of course, most who play Alder body basses do everything they can to get rid of the upper treble, so not doggin' that at all. However, I've grown to love the lower treble grind that really makes it through a mix, and the RA is all about warm fat lower mids (a good thing!) and high, upper treble click (as you can hear on my clip). That's a strange combination to my ear, although it surely doesn't sound bad at all.

I sure do like the 'feel' of it though (with the gloss finished maple board... nice 'bounce' off the neck like the LM), and will keep it at this point. I'm going to put some Sadowsky Blue Label steels on it, and I'm hoping that moves it a bit more into the LM territory that I like, since those strings are so much more 'ganky' than the very pure Hi Beams I'm using now (that sound way too polite and 'thin' for my needs on that bass).

Edit: Bass sounds GREAT (reminds me of theLG's I've played and own.. warm, fat, and growly!).... Bass sounds great, but man that singer is (edit) pretty weak!

Ha, we had a few technical mishaps with the guitar rig in the intro.... funny, no matter how long you sound check things always pop up :)

The bass is going into an Aguilar DB900 tube DI straight to the FOH.

It is active but I rarely have anything boosted, mostly adjust the tone knob.

Tonight is a monday night service so not a full concert but still a cool night. We play a few more songs after the speaker speaks.... maybe in about 30 minutes.

Thanks for checking it out. We found out it was being streamed as we were about to walk out on stage so I figured I would post it here for you guys to check out.
