I believe they were DR Hi Beams. Not 100% sure though.

I'm familiar with the LM5 that you tried out. I wouldn't blame you for choosing the LG5 over that one. The LM5 I have now literally smokes the one you tried in feel and sound. Maybe your decision would have been a little harder had you tried another LM5. :) The LG5's are great basses, though. Actually, all of Jimmy's basses are great but different. The right fit really depends on your tone goals and for me the LM5 is right in there.

But then I remember you (Jason) saying that LM5 was a great one and just like the others.

So either Jimmy's super inconsistent, which I doubt, or (Jason) you didn't remember that one very well, and it truly was not that representative (which would make a lot of sense to me, actually... no offense).

The bottom line is, have I actually sampled a representative LM or not? I'm thinking I have not.

audio was recorded to ProTools at the same time as well.
it's live, that's our RH room...

LG5 to GK1001RB line out to PT, flat on the mix (really)

the name of the band is SuperSam, it's a spanish rock band, hope you guys like it.

You guys make 7 groove like 4. REALLY nice, and the bass (and playing) sounds great to me.. another warm, growly, organic LG tone. Beautiful bass and tone. Thanks for the clip!

Very cool, nice playing.

The drums came out pretty nice are you using two overheads, snare and kick mics? Any info you could share I'd be interested.

Great sound! The band is excellent and the AC sounds tight!!!

Hey Vic, i remember that bass quite well, actually. I almost bought it.
I think that "great" is a relative term. To me, that LM was one of the better ones that I've played. I really think that it comes down to individual taste & what you are looking for it to do. I have played others since then that i would prefer, but still stand by that one being a great bass. I also think that the 2 LM's in question were different weights, which as we know makes a difference. AND i believe that the LM that Robin (Bassaroni) ended up with has laquer on the fingerboard (not certain), where the one you played didn't. To me, the weight & the finish change the degree of how "great" the bass is.

exactly Peter, I didn't have too many tracks so I went with 2 Audio Technica AT40339 for OHs (I didn't want to bring my U87's ;) ), AKG D112 on the kick, SM57 on the Snare, which at the end I didn't use it on the mix, but only to trigger a short reverb.
as you can see, 57 on the lead voice. also you can see that the lead singer has in-ears, he was the only one monitoring his voice, I didn't want his voice on the PA to avoid leaking on the rest of the mics, specially the OH. (and that's why he looks and sounds "relaxed"). btw looots of leaking on that track..
57's on all the guitars, and I used one of the cameras' nat sound to have a little more of the live sound feel.

as I said bass track is from the GK1001RB's line out, postEQ, but flat on the mix (not even a compressor) :smug:

and, camera placement... was a very PITA! :rolleyes:

To be fair, I have to say that there is a vast difference between the LM5 you had and mine. Maybe if I wouldn't have left this piece of info out this debate would have ended by now. Lol Anyway, the back of the neck on the teal LM5 was different. I had Jimmy thin the back of the neck on mine a little more than usual as I like flat and shallow necks. Plus, I have the Satin Poly vintage tint finish on my neck and fingerboard which affects the feel. I don't remember the neck finish on the teal one but it felt different than mine.

When I said that my bass smoked the one you had that was nothing more than my opinion or alluding to the fact that Jimmy's work is inconsistent which IME is not. The weight and the balance was different, too so again, my opinion. I like mine much better than any other LM5 I've tried mainly for a biased reason--mine was made for me and me only. :)

The LG5 didn't grab you by accident. Obviously you love it and it meets your tone goals and that's cool.

Okay, about to go back into shed mode for all of these gigs I have coming up. :)

Great job! Thanks for sharing... AT40339 I'm not familiar with that mic.

Definitely liked it! What a great tone... definitely GAS inducing. Nicely done; I enjoyed that.
