I had some sort of nickels on there...maybe D'Addario (most likely) but I can't be 100% sure. I tried the Hi-Beams first and they didn't grab me.

I think one of the reasons that the LG didn't do so well in that mix that Basseroni's talking about is the fact that her rig sounded fairly mid-scooped to my ear. My old walnut/ash 535 sounded great through that rig (set flat, maybe boosted in the bass and mids just a tad), and I know her AC LM5 sounds spectacular through that rig, but the LG not so much. It's a great rig, don't get me wrong, but for that LG to shine I think it needed a little bit more mid-push.

xkimsungx, who bought the LG from me, brought his DB112/Tfunk rig and the LG sounded like a million bucks. Very different from every other rig I heard that bass played through. I don't blame him for having a smile plastered on his face since he stole it, I mean, bought it from me.

I believe they were DR Hi Beams. Not 100% sure though.

I'm familiar with the LM5 that you tried out. I wouldn't blame you for choosing the LG5 over that one. The LM5 I have now literally smokes the one you tried in feel and sound. Maybe your decision would have been a little harder had you tried another LM5. The LG5's are great basses, though. Actually, all of Jimmy's basses are great but different. The right fit really depends on your tone goals and for me the LM5 is right in there.

On to the LG. There are too many upper mids going on for my taste on the LG overall. I do gravitate more toward the mid-scoopness and though the LM is not mid-scooped by any means, the mids shine more in the low end where I like it. And the slap tone on the LM is to die for.

And you know I don't care for rigs that have too much of a mid push so yeah, the LG wouldn't work in my arsenal.

I had a conversation with a pretty well-known bassist a few weeks ago and he prefers the LG over the LM.

In a nutshell, like I said before, both basses along with the others that Jimmy makes are incredible but the LM is home for me.

Different strokes for different folks. Jimmy's got something for everyone.

Jimmy sez all is in order, and the alignment on my P pickups is normal. I'm going to re-lower the pickups and just go with it.

Sweet! I can see why you chose the LM and love it so much. Even with the somewhat distorted recording, you can hear that ash/maple. I totally dig it, and of course, the groove and execution is beautiful also!!!!! What a fun group to play with! Cool!

He was using his own private label strings but I don't see them anywhere on his new website...I've used a few sets of them

I spoke to Jimmy a little while ago. They're strings he has custom made for him by a Turkish company. He told me they're $24.95 for a 4 string set and $34.95 for a 5 string set, and he has them in stock.

What's up Coppolo lovers ???

Jimmy's in serious build mode over at the factory this week.
I've stopped through to see him 2 of the last 3 days & there are about 7 or 8 new basses being put together today & tomorrow.
Some for the upcoming Bass Player Live show.
I hear that Mrs. Coppolo will be cranking out a bunch of pickups tonight & tomorrow to finish them up.
On Wednesday, I played a newly built alder/rosewood KBP5 (black) that is going to my friend, Derrick Murdock from The Jay Leno Show.
It is sweeeeet !!!
One of the soon to be assembled is my long awaited rosewood board LM 5. (Transparent Red) If she sounds half as good as she looks, i'll be psyched.
Her arrival is almost anti-climactic, as I must shelf her in a month for my soon to be painted LG4 (Dakota Red) that will be my new main bass as I hit the road with the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls".
I wanna publicly thank Jimmy again for bustin' his butt to get me that bass before the show starts in NYC in early November.

FYI: It looks like Jimmy & I will be attending the Southern California TalkBass GTG next Saturday for those of you who can make it.
I may even bring my new axe ...
