I wasn't in the market, but it seemed like a pretty good grab, since I'm in Australia and get free shipping as well. I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about, I'll be sure to post some pics when it gets here in about a week :)

I'm pretty sure that this is one of the two EUT basses (jimmy's export only line) that was made for the last Winter NAMM ... the body is Primavera.

She is a beauty and every person who has played her has called her the best bass they have ever played...I have a local kid who is really wanting to buy her some kind of bad. He is a 20 year old prodigy and has used her on some sessions I am recording now and is loving her! She is currently wearing flats and sounds phenomenal on everything we are using her on. The Nitro finish was shot by the guy from Fender and the Dabergia is like a candy bar....In a word STUNNING!

What the heck. I love this picture. This is my buddy Jason (TBer Vision) playing my LM5 at one of our many GTG's. This is, by far, my favorite bass of any I've owned through the years (a lot more years than I want to even think about). I just love this bass... the look, the feel, the action/playability, the relatively lightweight, and that A-C sound!!!! It's been my primary gigging instrument for a couple of years now! I think I adjusted the neck twice since I've owned it... once thinking I needed to adjust it, and then putting it back where it was! My LG moves around the 'normal' amount, but the LM neck seems like it is made of granite. I likey, likey!

I absolutely love the headstock, but it is a unique enough design component that it does not surprise me that some don't dig it. That's why there are many different looks and brands.

However, I will say I did not dig the headstock design much in the pictures, but took the plunge on one anyway a while back, and 'in person', the look is quite a bit different.

Pure aesthetic choice, and I know what you mean. For example, I can hardly look at that Nordy headstock, but many love it. That's what makes the world go round:)

Well, you are on an A-C thread, so you know the direction most will give you. I've played quite a few LEJ's, and they were pretty nice. I understand the 'fit and finish' is getting better with each batch, but I was not very impressed with the ones I've played regarding the 'quality feel' (all of these were over a year ago). Also, all the ones I've played were very, very modern sounding. They sounded great, but they really didn't do what most would call a 'J Bass tone'. I understand Brian has some new single coil pickups that give the LEJ users the option to move those instruments to a little more 'classic J' tone.

Also, the preamp on the LEJ is a bit more like the Sadowsky in that it can get quite extreme, and does a very good job of doing a sort of 'J on steroids' type tone. The LEJ's can also be made to do a very modern, aggressive bridge pickup 'burp', which is pretty cool.

The A-C, as many have posted and as I assume you know since you own an LG, is more about getting a relatively accurate, vintage tone and feel, and to make the A-C's, even when in active mode with the preamp tone controls boosted a bit, to still sound relatively 'classic and organic'.

So, VERY different design goals. When I want a more modern sounding J type tone, I prefer the 'Sadowsky' interpretation of that tone, which still has a lot of 'J' in the sound to my ear (at least when the Sadowsky J has singles installed). The fit and finish of the Sadowsky NYC's is every bit as good as the A-C's IMO.

I do not put the LEJ basses in the same category IMO (and they are less expensive, so I guess that makes sense).

When I was in New York, I played an LM5 and preferred it to the LG5 in terms of sound. I went LG5 because it was a bit different to the existing basses in my stable. It is the favourite of the lot for me, so I guess an LM5 would be even more favourite!

I too love the way the LM sounds in the mix, and also that nice 'bounce' you get off the fretboard with that 'full body J, ash, maple spec). Of course, the LG does what it does wonderfully also.

I'm enjoying my RA, but it just doesn't speak to me like the more 'classic specs' of the LG and LM. It sounds great, but it doesn't bring to mind 'classic J tone' as I define it. IMO there.
